You are looking at things from business perspective and seeing it as a person who is killing it and being rewarded, but his success doesn't come from that. You have to look at where the money comes from. Steem is built on a system that operates like a gift economy. Each week, a gift is given to the Steem community and individuals in that community are given the responsibility to decide how that gift is spent. The mechanism for that decision is voting.
The weight of an account's vote is proportional to the stake that account holds.
Haejin's success doesn't come from folks like you, but instead come from himself and another account which he claims to have control over, ranchorelaxo. He uses the stake on those account to reap about 95% of his rewards. Now, it is his stake, and he can choose to gift himself with that stake, but the rest of the community can also use their stake to decide against that.
Currently haejin is taking up about 4% of the rewards pool. If everybody got an equal share, that would mean that only 25 people would get rewards. However, there are thousands of active accounts here. So a 4% take is tremendous. Now if his income was coming from somewhere other than the reward pool, that would be fine, but since it is coming from a limited fund dedicated to all steemians, it is appropriate for people to downvote when they feel he is gettinig too much.
I hope you are having a great morning, afternoon or evening wherever you are in this world of ours.
I appreciate your reply.
However as you said "individuals in that community are given the responsibility to decide how that gift is spent."
is that a contributing factor?
is that the main contributing factor?
Surely if people didnt vote sitting in all different locations around the world he wouldnt get so much money, otherwise EVERYONE who understood the system would set up supposedly 2 accounts and do EXACTLY THE SAME THING.
And everyone would be rich (until the money ran out)
The peoples votes have to influence how much he gets, otherwise the system is totally flawed if anyone can get on and "do it themselves" without the community CAUSING his financial success...????????????????? So, if i understand you, by voting, "the people" the community vote to say "i like that post" which gives @haejin money...? is that correct???
What you say would be correct if all votes were equal. They are not. The value of the vote is based on the amount of steem power you have. So if you take a look at Haejin's contributions, you will see a vastly disproportionate amount of rewards coming from two individuals, Ranchrelaxo and Haejin himself.
So it is not a situation in which the COMMUNITY is causing his financial success but instead, a single individual and himself. This creates a situation in which people with a lot of wealth can simply come in and buy the pot. This exact situation was described in the Steem whitepaper.
So to answer your question, no. Your vote and hundreds of votes just like yours are not really contributing factors to this controversy. Instead, it is the votes from a single individual totaling up to $3600 daily and self-votes combined with the amounts of posts per day are the issue.
And i missed this scenario,
"it is appropriate for people to downvote when they feel he is gettinig too much."
Thats pathetic.
What a bunch of sooks.
Someone works hard and earns more than someone else and others who are not producing good enough content to get enough votes dont get as much money as someone else then sook and cry get jealous and say "he's earning more than me thats not fair!!! seriously what a bunch of babies.
NEWSFLASH... its impossible for everyone on steemit to get exactly the same amount of money.
thats life
someone is always gonna be smarter faster better realise it, know it, get over it, but more than that, DO something about it buy bettering yourself.
Dont just pull down the tall poppy.
This is the same as the world.
in the world there is money floating around and anyone not in a 3rd world country at least primarily have an opportunity every day to earn more money by reading learning socialising bettering themselves only if they get off their ass.
But in Steemits world if Haejin drives down the road in a Mercedes Benz or such, any dude driving a 26 year old beat up shitbox car can simply stop him on the street and take that car off him simply because he doesnt think its right.
Stupid childish small minded people.
Just my opinion.
Haejin's success on Steemit is based on his wealth outside of Steemit and not his product on steemit.
To give a scenario, Bill Gates could take all of his wealth and buy enough Steem to dwarf all of us to include Haejin and Rancho and all the other whales together. Then, Bill could make a post that says "Microsoft Rules!", upvote himself and literally drain all of the rewards from the reward pool for that time period. Haejin's posts would earn nothing...neither would anybody else's. Would the community be justified in such an instance in downvoting Bill's post? Did he earn it simply because he had the wealth to buy it?
Great thankyou, then whoever designed the system maybe didnt think of these things??????
So its the SYSTEMS FAULT that "allows" anyone with dollars to do this.
My opinion here again, dont blame the person flaunting the system blame the system, blame the person who invented not a greatly thought out system!
As such, if thems the rules, so be it, unless someone changes the rules, bad luck, it is was it is!
And i get the Bill Gates example, however haejin is undoubtedly giving awesome content which many of his 15,000 followers can be benefiting from financially in some examples quite life changing ways. I dont know the answer but how many other people on here have 15,000 followers or more? i have no idea but i imagine there wouldnt be too many, unless they are rockstars or Hollywood celebrity types or whatever...would be very interesting to know.
Who else on Steemit is helping so many people make great money FOR FREE.
There are some i am sure but i dont think as many as him doing it to the level he is doing it and therefore helping out the Steemit community not get Steemit dollars/rewards whatever but dollars in their pocket outside steem thru wealth from crypto, and did i say FREE???
To me anyone who helps the masses (unlike the Gates example, giving zero!!) deserves a great paycheck.
Gates is one of the biggest philanthropists of our time. It wouldn't matter though. In this example, he would still get downvoted. You say that they didn't think of these things, but they did. It's up there in the white paper long before anybody ever got here. The community is supposed to correct themselves. They do that through downvotes. Like haejin, Bill Gates might deserve a paycheck for the work that he does, but it is not Steem's responsibility to give it to him. As many followers as Haejin has, his effect on the steemit community as a whole is overall at this point is negative. He is pulling millions from the platform. Don't blame the platform for attempting to work as it should.
