This is the crane fly. Also known as a mosquito eater in my parts and mosquito hawk. Many think this insect eats mosquito but it does not. In the larva stage they look similar to a grey slug or caterpillar and feast on grass mainly. As adults like you see in the picture they only sometime eat nectar if available but otherwise do not eat because their life span is only about 3 days in adult form.
