Slacking

I've been actively documenting and watching people and their behaviour change in my city during the Covid19 pandemic, starting about three weeks ago when people in Finland started to wake up to the situation and that is might effect us too.

You can check the series of street photos here if you missed them: Part 1 and Part 2 and Part 3 and Part 4 and Part 5

People in my city were compliant and seemed to limit their social life and outings quite early on. But my expectation was that after a little while of social isolation, people would go a bit crazy and get bored of being safe. My prediction came true this past weekend and early this week.

We are not banned from going outside for walks, but in doing so, people should keep their distance from each other. For about two weeks, it was very very peaceful outside where there normally would be lots of people walking and biking, clearly most were taking this situation seriously.

The amount of Covid19 cases in Central Finland has been going up, but it's been a very slow rise and seems like the self isolation and closing most schools has been working to control the spread. I think that has created a false sense of security and people are starting to slack off. The fact that the weather has been pretty nice and sunny probably also plays its part and people want to get out to enjoy it. Last weekend it looked pretty much like any other weekend in the harbour where people like to go for walks. I didn't go to the city center but I do expect that there were some people out but as restaurants only serve takeaway and a lot of shops are closed, I don't think there were too many people packed in there.

I'll be interesting to see if there is some significant rise in cases now that spring is here and people are getting bored of staying home. I'll keep you posted on how the situation here develops.

How's it looking in your neighbourhood?

Sort:

What neighborhood? ahaha
I'm almost a month away since the last time I walked around the city. Everything is silent but for the occasional car or dog barking.
People are here too quite undisciplined and still refuse to maintain the proper distance or to go out for shopping only for real necessities and one per family

Where do you live?

It wait for it aly

Oh damn. You guys are not doing good out there.

Ay, everything is quite depressing, i'll tell you that

OHHH!!!!!! BICYCLES EVERYWHERE!!!!!!! WOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
