In Germany the time of rebuilding after the war is seen as equal in terms of destruction. Many damaged town centers, sometimes even with only little damage, were simply cleared to make space for a new and modern town, for example Kassel, Magdeburg, Ulm etc. Even Dresden was much less destroyed as it seems but after the war they simply wanted to go on and forget the horrors of bomb war, which was especially severe in the dense and timber-built German old towns. A philosophy which needs to be understood in its context although it is sad today that so many buildings, which could have been saved, were demolished senselessly.
