Welcome back to the best congregation of Cosplayers since…well…the last post I put up about this just several days ago. That’s right folks, this is Part 2 of my highly anticipated (humor me) collection of badass diehards from across the country as they rock the duds of their favorite characters from Pop Culture.
While they are a ton of work to setup and run, I do miss the Convention circuit that I would participate in quite a bit. For the past decade plus, my shop Conquest Comics would set up at some of the largest Comic Cons that our country houses. From San Diego Comic Con, to New York Comic Con, Orlando Megacon, to Heroes Con in Charlotte…we would always have a kickass booth, poised to crush the show with delicious merch.
Sadly, the past 2 years living in a Covid infected world have not been kind to the convention scene. Between outright cancellations, moved dates, to scaled back shows…we decided to just completely sit back and not participate. A perfect example is this past NYCC. Usually one of our best shows, we decided to sit it out once again as I just did not feel comfortable doing it.
Putting Covid aside for a moment, the show was scaled back, yet the expenses would have been the same if not more. It just didn’t seem like the smart play. So while it broke my heart once again to not be there, it was just too much of a risk to tackle it. Side note…I’m totally glad we passed as some of my colleagues who toughed it out, totally told me that they wished they hadn’t.
Regardless, one day we will get back to it. Maybe this year…perhaps next. But at some point I’d love to get that all rolling again as it’s not only a great source of income being infused into the business over the course of a weekend, but it’s a fantastic way to network.
One other aspect I really miss is to gaze at all of the wonderful cosplayers that full up the convention centers. These folks are dedicated and committed to rocking sone kick ass gear of their favorite pop culture icons. I usually get to just snap some pics as they pass by my booth as I’m stuck working, but even that I miss dearly.
So in honor of no new cosplay in years, I’m going to share a smattering of awesome costumes from some past conventions with you all. I have a gazillion of these, so this will be the first of several to come. Some OG’s here might remember these but for you newer folk…it’ll rock your worlds!!! So sit back, relax, and enjoy the creativity and put love that some of these diehards hold towards their favorite heroes, villains, and more….
Let me know who you like best!!!!
MegaCon finally happened last year after being cancelled/moved/scaled back and scaled up several times. It seemed to be as big as ever though. I've already got my tickets and hotel for this year. Just attending as a fan is a big enough expense but at least it within driving distance for me.
I'd love to attend one of those cosplay events someday. Hopefully, this will be a better year for getting back to normal. I can totally understand how you'd miss taking part in those. We have a friend that is big into the RenFair cosplay events (I think that's what she calls it) where they reenact medieval times.
I'm not up on my comic characters but my favorite in these pics is the redhead in the green outfit!
Good to see that the cons and their people is holding out. Wonderful pictures.
Awesome Cosplayers images! Thanks for sharing them, @blewitt.
That is so cool. I love all the pictures which is really fantastic and attractive.
wow love these pictures.
I want to use it
A lot of great photos, thanks for sharing. I haven't been to San Diego Comic Con since my pre-military days when it was still held in the El Cortez Hotel. That was obviously a LONG time ago. I have a lot of friends in San Diego that still go every year (I haven't lived in California for sometime now). Amazing how much it has grown over the years and how it is now about a lot more than comic books.
I thought Darth Fett was interesting, but probably the coolest looking was the scout trooper (big star wars fan here), but if I had to choose just one, I'm going with the first wonder woman. (my first crush when I saw her on the TV show)
Que genial, me encantaría poder asistir a uno y hacer cosplay de mis personajes favoritos también...
Wow! This is so cool! I really love those costumes! People are so creative and put in so much effort.
Thanks for sharing!
Cheers,
