My youngest brother is a master carpenter and woodworker, my younger brother has the gift of gab, I’m the nerd oldest brother. Nobody has ever mistaken me for a handyman.

But our upstairs tub had been getting worse and worse at draining and chemical warfare with generic Drano hadn’t helped at all. Taking a shower in two inches of standing water gets old fast. Getting a plumber to come over during this coronapocalypse at the cost of several hundred bucks was not appealing.

Who needs to have any actual skills when you can just watch a few YouTube videos and then pretend that you’re an expert? Armed with minutes of hard-earned knowledge, I disassembled the overflow, removed the trip lever and the linkage, and snaked the full 25-feet of a drain auger down the pipe.

Success!

Now I can move on to watching videos about brain surgery.

But underneath his button-down dress shirt, he would wear a Superman T-shirt, which he would reveal as a symbol of strength when he ripped open the top layer. He ultimately did not go ahead with the stunt.
