The coronavirus pandemic will go down as one of the most influential events in the 21st century. We are witnessing history as Covid-19 forced countries to impose a "lockdown" order the world had never seen before.
I can still recall the last day of 2019; on a train, traveling to the city of Harbin, China for vacation. It was a lovely day, and as I looked outside at the snowy plains, I had to admit that I looked forward to this new decade. 201X have been wonderful, with a decade of bull market and confidence in the economy, I felt "rich", or wording differently, I'm willing to spend money.
Fast forward a couple of months and the sentiments had changed like the season. Shutdown, masks, and social distancing were enforced and the economy crashed. Hell broke loose in NYC as frontline workers tried to take care of the infected. The lockdown definitely wasn't a pleasant experience. It was one of the few occasions where I had literally nothing to do but to surf the web and read books. Had to say, I managed to stay put for two weeks before going out for some sun.
Drank a sh#t ton of orange juice and milk during the prison days at home
During the lockdown, we were able to see our planet operating with minimum human activities. The effects weren't negative as the major producer of greenhouse gas, China, had experienced a record drop in pollution after factories shutdown. In fact, pollution across the world had dipped and the ozone hole shrank to its smallest size in years. The virus seems like antibodies the Earth had deployed to save itself from humans.
I'm surprised how unprepared humans are during this pandemic. It is a blessing that the fatality rate of this virus is not on par with its level of infectivity. Imagine how bad it could be if the fatality rate is as high as SARS or MERS, which I believe, is roughly 9% and 35% respectively. Covid-19 is nowhere as dangerous and had no major mutations to date, which makes sense as logically, a virus isn't trying to kill someone. Its goal is to infect as many people as possible to survive, similar to how we are destroying the planet for our growth. It is every species for themselves in this universe.
The human race had experienced many pandemics in the past but are never prepared to face the next one. Bill Gates once warned of the dangers of the next pandemics, however, it seems that countries were more concerned with military power than some virus infection. As a result, we do not have a military branch that can effectively deal with pandemics. I believe countries should invest in a pandemic task force, an organization that can deploy immediately across the globe to fight the biological war.
History has repeated itself with another virus outbreak, but humans could take this as an important lesson to prevent future pandemics from occurring.

A friendly reminder to stay hydrated
Interesting read but I do not believe we need more regulation. We already have too much. It is never good when we can not run our own lives because of outside forces that have no intention to be for the common good.
Even the almighty will not mess with the #freewill it has bestowed upon its creation.
Of course, one should have complete freedom in performing speech and actions. The government shouldn't hinder a human's rights.
Some really interesting reflections!
So after Harbin, where did you spend your quarantine? And is life back to normal mostly where you are??
I smiled and really liked your friendly reminder to stay hydrated. 😊
I really liked the GIF to - did you make it yourself??
It is a live wallpaper that I then manually edited into a gif. Used for a better user experience. The sources are embedded into the gif itself.
