In your view what’s the most important underrated skill? Give it a thought. I will be sharing my opinion. Is it programming, driving, investing or cooking? Let me give you a hint most of the millennial don’t have this skill they depend on Swiggy or Zomato for it. You have guessed it right, its cooking.
Let’s talk about some of the health benefits of basic food on the North Indians i.e. chapati:
• Enriched with Nutrients
• Good for our skin
• Power packed with energy
• Roti prevents disease
• Maintain Hemoglobin Levels
In overseas, except for the people of South East Asian origin, very few people know to bake a roti though it is so healthy. Additionally, most of the Indian’s give more importance to pizza, burger, subs and sandwiches instead of home cooked roti. As the saying goes, “Pet chicken is like a lentil”
Even the Indian culture has been biased to pass on the cooking skill, particularly to females. If the next day, female give up baking, most of us may be happily ordering for the restaurants but after a while we will be crying for the home food. People who have stayed in hostel or are currently staying in PG can relate most to it.
I have been actively learning to cook and it has taught me a lot. Our mothers are the unsung heroes, who cook for us daily, Moreover, they make sure we don’t get bored with the taste too :)
As I mentioned previously, the best time to learn swimming is not when one is drowning. I became a better chapati maker and learnt to make some sabji’s too. Irony is there is no English word for sabji as the English people consume boiled vegetables. They don’t have the capacity to consume spicy foods or sweets, the way we can. But still we end up running for donuts. The ingredients like turmeric and dry coriander powder has various benefits and we consume them mostly daily along with sabji. I am leaving upon you to google the healthy benefits of those ingredients.
Hope you learn just the basic stuff we need to survive else in current situation you may face various health issues. The aforementioned picture of peas paratha is baked by me last month ;)
