What’s NOT in a Name? Let's redefine EOS 😁

Launch of EOSIO

Since yesterday, voting for electing first 21 Block Producers of EOS is going on. A minimum 15% of the tokens need to participate in voting in order to validate the EOS blockchain and get it activated. No. of votes is constantly increasing and has already reached about 1.5% of the total 15% required. It shouldn’t be long before the 15% mark is reached.

So after a wait of about a year, EOS Mainnet is finally ready for the launch. The Blockchain that made history by raising $4 billion in its ICO and is currently worth about 12 billion dollars even when Bitcoin is being dumped below $7000, has finally started to breath. But I always wonder what do EOS stands for?

What does EOS stand for?

If EOS were written is small letters, it won’t bother me much as Eos in Greek and Roman mythology stand for the personification of dawn. It gives a perfect meaning as EOS is infusing a new era in blockchain technology. But when it’s all capital letters, it looks like it's some acronym or at least some abbreviated form of something. What it could be?

There is no official statement from EOS describing its full form or defining the meaning of its name. I don’t know what its founder had in his mind while coining this name. But I believe that such an important brand name wasn't chosen at random. A great name helps in writing the ultimate destiny of the organization whereas a poorly given name may even mean a disaster for it.

Let's be a little creative

So what do you think the letters EOS can stand for? It could have been anything like:

Economy of Scales
End of Steem
Eternal Operating System
End of Show
Envious of Steem
End of Story
Experience Obtained from Steem
End of Season
Evergreen Online Support
Era of Staking

But none of these sound inspiring to me. Can you think of a good expansion for EOS?

Comment with the best expansion for EOS you can think of. Do also write a few sentences explaining how that defines or represents EOS, its vision and its business better.

Let's find the missing words in EOS and complete what's not presented to us with this name. I'll be instituting a bounty of 1 SBD to reward the most fitting, innovative and explanatory comment with the help of @steem-bounty.

Looking forward to your super-creative responses 😊

N.B.:

Please note, this is just a fun activity and there is nothing official about it. No offence meant to anyone.

Expected Ongoing Scam?
Ahh not sure, im not invested in it yet...

The capitalization (EOS) is only used by block.one to identify the call letters for the token. The name of the software (written by block.one) does not follow this capitalization rule, and can be seen on their website written in all lower case, all upper case, and with just the E capitalized.
Following the news and constantly viewing the website (eos.io) shows that the name was chosen because of the greek mythology name. The pictures and process of introducing the token hint at this, as does the name for their updates of progress (Dawn 1.0, ... Dawn 4.0) But officially, a statement from their CTO Dan Larimer says the name can be interpreted however one wants, and is not a specific initialism or acronym for anything.

This makes complete sense to me. perfect explanation esp. the connection between the releases named Dawn 1.0 etc. I had totally missed to connect this with eos. Thank you for your insights on it!

To be honest never really thought about what it meant so I do not have a clue. Checking it on acronymfinder.com the first results are:

  • End of Sale
  • Economies of Scale
  • Employee Opinion Survey

Kinda strange they never really mentioned it officially what it means. Would be really interesting now to know it. Maybe someone here has deeper insight.

Eternal Operating System sounds really good.

@xyzashu has set 1.010 SBD bounty on this post! logo_for-light-bg_1000.png
What is a bounty exactly?

A bounty is money sent to a post to be distributed to the users commenting on it. It provides a way to reward users directly and works in addition to the steem/sbd they receive from the blockchain. It works independently of SteemPower.

You create a bounty by sending any amount of sbd/steem to @steem-bounty together with a post-url in the memo.

How can I earn a bounty Users are then competing for the bounty by writing their answers to the post in comments that will achieve upvotes from the community and especially the bounty creator. The money of the bounty gets distributed to all top level comments of the post at the same time when the post is paid out (7 Days after it was written). How much everyone gets depends on the votes the comments received. The sender of the bounties votes are weighted higher so that she decideds where 80% of the bounty money goes and all other votes determine the rest.

@steem-bounty does all of this for you automatically. You can use this service to automatically pay out a challenge, ask a hard question or simply to reward the people that interact with you.

Read more about how it works, even in different languages here.

Congratulations to the following winner(s) of the bounty!

  • @lippycruz has earned 0.005 SBD. 0.000 SBD from the creator of the bounty and 0.005 SBD from the community!
