Welcome to the VDUX Happy Haiku Contest!!!

Steemit has many great contests. It also has mine! If you have 30 seconds to spare, you could win 1.5 SBDs for just 17 syllables of writing. That's an hourly rate of 180 SBDs!!!

Read below for more about the contest instructions, how to participate, awards, and how I'll select a winner.

Contest Instructions

Write a haiku about happiness.

This must be a one-stanza, traditional 5-7-5 haiku like the ones described here: http://www.kidzone.ws/poetry/haiku.htm . Here’s an example:

Life is hard sometimes.

Unfair. Unforgiving. Vague.

Treasure happiness!

You may submit multiple haikus, but PLEASE make each haiku its own reply. Each one will be considered a separate entry.

This theme comes from me! If you have any suggestions for future contests, leave them on my Request for Suggestions.

How to Participate

  1. Reply below with your haiku. Deadine: 11:59 pm UTC, December 19, 2018.
  2. Upvote this post. Deadline: 11:59 pm UTC, December 19, 2018.

That's it! But...

You should also resteem this post to increase the winner's prize and give yourself some free exposure! You can participate without resteeming -- I don't give preference -- but if you do resteem, it only helps you.

Also, post your entry on your own blog! Mention @vdux and I'll give you an upvote and resteem your post.

And, collect a bonus point for each person you tag in your contest entry. More players, more prizes, more fun!

Awards

Winner gets:

  • 1.5 SBD
  • One free resteem from me for any post. (You choose the post. There's no time limit but I reserve the right to refuse resteem any post I consider offensive or indecent -- I'll simply ask you for a different, non-offensive post.)

One runner-up gets:

  • One free resteem from me for any post. (You choose the post. There's no time limit but I reserve the right to refuse to resteem any post I consider offensive or indecent -- I'll simply ask you for a different, non-offensive post.)

How I Will Select the Winner

Within 2 days after the deadline, I will read all entries and choose a winner and runner-up. While I'll take upvotes into consideration, my selection will reflect my personal preference based on the entries you submit.

Feel free to reuse a haiku from the past and write as many as you want!

Also, give congrats to all who've participated in my previous contests -- the list keeps growing!

be always grateful
Being happy is a choice
Share it to the world

I agree, totally.

If you’re happy
and you know it, clap your hands!
Clap, Clap, Clap, Hurray...

If you are happy

There, that does it!

Under the deep pain
Past the should nots and could nots
Happiness is found

happy is a choice
they say, like it's all my fault
and now i feel worse

Happiness is a,
is a warm gun mama oh yeah
oh oh yeah yeah yeah

I have the original white album vinyl. My dad's originally.

Awesome! Thanks for putting this on so I have something cool to listen to now... :)

Can't go wrong with Beatles.

Happiness, she waits,
for when I get home from work
flopped behind the door

Looks like a cutie!

It's a bird of sorts
that flies high, unfettered, free
between you and me

Be happy always
For this Precious Gift of Life
And all things on earth.

You said it!

Colored ink fills page
Happiness came from doing -
Rough hands feeling soft

Whoa, nice imagery! Art is joy.

Happiness is just
temporary, but inner
peace is eternal.

Thank you @vdux. I was just contemplating on inner peace which gives me this unexplainable joy.

Wonderful!

Secure in the warmth
of my husband's affection,
I am filled with joy.

A great feeling, isn't it?

Find Simplicity
Craving things and happiness
Not compatible

You're right. Hard to remember sometimes...

My Lord Jesus Christ
The only ultimate source
of my happiness.

happiness is not
something you can just define
for yours is not mine

All of those words ring so true,
I knew they would come from you.
I scrolled down the page,
(On my way to engage)
And stopped when I read your haiku.

Oh, wait, this is not a limmericks contest. My bad.

Self Reflections
Me, myself and I
Happiness lives far beyond
Mirror reflections

damp earth under foot
blue skies rest weightless above
I am infinite

Happy, too?

Happy like a fox!

Sorry, that's a bit glib on reflection!

I like to think of infinite as an approximation of happiness. When I am truly happy I feel infinite. The joy stretches out of me in all directions (metaphorically), reaching everything inside and outside, I am connected to everything in those moments. Joy is an experience that expands outwards. Whilst darker emotions are an experience that press inwards, claustrophobic, crushing, confusing. Happiness is weightless, expansive, effervescent! At least, that is my experience.
Also, as I thought Haiku's were often nature based, it was fun exploring this metaphor.

Ah yes, very nice, very nice.

Happy Haiku time! U&R

Put a smile on
Ride the waves of happiness
Joy is soon fleeting!

Thank you! I agree. Can you change the last line to 5 syllables?

Yes. I guess I thought fleeting was flee -t- ing. 😂

The first line has only four syllables.
Nicely done, in any case. ;-)

The essence of happiness
Hidden in plain view

what took years to grow
Shot down. In a fleeting blow
did you even know?

What was shot down?

Happiness I find
Is in the smallest moments
That living can bring

I feel the same way too. It's the simple things that make me happy.

Me too.
I find that the older I get, the less I need to be happy
;-)

Posted using Partiko Android

Just this:

Giving my best gift
To everyone I love most
Remained so precious

Posted using Partiko Android

Hi @olivia08 this one also has a 6 syllable last line. Can you change it to 5 syllables?

Thank you for the correction..

Posted using Partiko Android

I'll accept it!

Bottled, label black
pours sweet joy in shades of jack
but won't bring her back

Happy that you give
The more to those who believe
People who receive

Posted using Partiko Android

Hi @olivia08 so good to have your entry! Can you change the last line so it's 5 syllables? Yours is 6. Rules...

Corrected and sound better.
Thank.you dear @vodux

Thank you!

Inner contentment
Is the true goal in finding
Your own happiness

Posted using Partiko Android

Starts from within

Begins and ends there. ;-)

Happiness is found -
When on top of the food chain
Hunting down gazelles

First line has 6 syllables!

Oh, no! Not the tsk-tsk fingers! I've amended my ways.

It may burn down low
Threatening to flicker out
but still, don't give up

Both of us, @calluna.

If it's hard to find
Don't worry, just borrow mine
And i'll help you look

- Reborn happiness -

Somber cries about,
then hushed by gasp and marching -
fortune struck again.

Syllables!!!!

What syllables?
Illuminati.jpeg

First line has 6 syllables...

I like to personally blame the Illuminati for tricking me to thinking I only had five.

Between them and the masons, you're screwed.

Damn, anyways haiku’s been fixed for a while~

lettuce, tomato, and meat

Whoever enjoys small things finds happiness everywhere

Sounds delicious. What meat do you prefer?

¡Thanks vdux for this contest!

Smile, enjoy and have fun
Cry, suffer and fight
With all this happiness is reached

Can you please use the standard haiku format? I keep this rule so the contest is fair and all contestants have the same rules.

I want to understand
some more about the Haiku
I will be happy

Ok. I am not good in English, but it's a great practice to move the memory looking for words.

Welcome! That's a great start. Kudos to you!!!

The only correction: your first line is six syllables, it needs to be five. Can you revise?

Yes, I do. I like this game!
