They should make them suffer just as much if not more than the person they attacked or attempted to attack. Then let them rot in jail. No second chances, no do-overs. They criminals made the decision to attack that person. Whether innocent or guilty, that's up to the law to decide. Not the common man. We can just make our opinions.

Yes, death penalty should be abolished.
My reasons are

  1. It could be used as a tool of revenge in a biased judiciary system. Most underdeveloped countries have their judiciary at the Apex of corruption. I'm a witness to this.

  2. Religiously, Both the Bible and the Quran does not support death sentence by sentiment intact the Bible outrightly said thou shall not kill.
3.Death sentence has caused much death in prisons today where Victims kill inmates with the reason that "I" "will" "not" "die" "alone".

  3. By killing people you are simply burying dreams and this does not support societal growth.

  4. Furthermore, death shouldn't be forced on an individual no Matter the offense rather live imprisonment should be applied to avoid the death of youths in the society because most horror offenses are committed by the youths

should death penalty be abolished

First defining death penalty

Capital punishment, also known as the death penalty, is a government-sanctioned practice whereby a person is put to death by the state as a punishment for a crime. The sentence that someone be punished in such a manner is referred to as a death sentence, whereas the act of carrying out the sentence is known as an execution. Crimes that are punishable by death are known as capital crimes or capital offences, and they commonly include offences such as murder, treason, espionage, war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide. Etymologically, the term capital (lit. "of the head", derived via the Latin capitalis from caput, "head") in this context alluded to execution by beheading. Read more here

It should be abolished here are my reasons

You can't give life why take it?

There are some issues God alone can judge

There is hope for change in the future so why take away the hope

Death is in evitable let it come at the right time

It should be abolished because of the right to life

Yes it should be abolished. My stand is that death penalty is contrary to every human’s univeral right to life and liberty. In the context of my country, Philippines, death penalty is especially dangerous because our justice system is still flawed. There could be mistakes in the judiciary’s decisions that will hinder the realization of what ends death penalty will serve.

Agree with you! thanks for joining ;)

Definitely the death penalty must be abolished, no one has in their hands the power to decide for the life of another. I think we all have the right to redo Nuesras lives. On the other hand, in my opinion the Constitution of these countries should be amended, since it does not conform to the new civilizations. Human life is very valuable and a process of recovery in each deprived of liberty would bring valuable contributions to humanity, although for the serious crimes they have committed they must remain locked up all their lives.

Definitely not! I think it's the only way to punish criminals. Leaving them in prison with free foods and shelter wont give justice to the victim. Criminals already surrendered their human rights when they commit crimes so they should be treated as monsters. And monsters should be abolished!

Remember that some people has been sentenced to death penalty and later on they were proven to be innocent. Plus some people are also sentenced to death just for having a different political point of view. I believe killing someone for a crime is more a revenge than a justice. Killing someone would not bring back whoever this person might have killed. Killing someone makes you a murderer in my opinion if it's not in legitimate defense...

I meant to apply death sentence on people who deserves it. Like a criminal who blatantly committed murder.

A few years ago if asked this I would likely have said no way! I have always believed certain crimes like murder, child abuse, rape should be punished with death. And there are certain people I still believe should be put to death.

However I've watched documentary's and read stories of people being on death row for years or even been put to death and then proven innocent.

So I would say no nowadays unless there was a way to 100% prove guilt.

Hi @thepassenger,

I see the new version works well. And no worries about missing the reply, I understand it could've been buried beneath all the other replies easily.

As for my answer, the deathpenalty should be abolished. Too many false-positives.

PS
I've made a new post with some free animated dividers. You might find those useful too.

Hey! Nice designs there :) I'll give them a try!

No, it should not, I believe that it should be exported to other Countries, to cause a positive effect on the high murder and crime rates in Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela!

As I said before, having a death penalty doesn't stop murders. What stops them is education and opportunities in life. The countries with death penalty have higher crime rates than the ones without it, plus the risk as it happened before to kill innocent people. thanks for joining!

I don't think it should be abolished especially for those guilty of killing someone else , i think the fear of death penalty have really reduce crime rate especially those that has to do with taking another mans life ,if it is abolished killings will increase because it will be assume that the worse is to go to jail , so it should not be abolished but not to be used as a punishment for all crime but those that has to do with killings

that statement is untrue. In Europe for example, there's no death penalty and crime rates are much lower than US which does have a death penalty in some states. And also, many people has been sentenced to death and then they were proven to be innocent. What about that? Should be sentence the judge to death because he failed and killed someone too?

life, is a gift, a gift which none of us can ever own. I know there are offences and crimes that can't be forgiven. But we've all done some crazy stuffs too. Maybe the magnitude differ..... But a wrong is a wrong. Life should be treated as it is... Life.

Death penalty should be abolished. I believe everyone if they see the right Light In life, Can have a change of heart and contribute greatly to our society.

Give them a second chance.

One could say outrightly that every crime committed should have it's own equivalent measure of just recompense.
But one it comes to matters involving life and death, critical analysis and detailed examination of the gravity of offence involved needs to be put into consideration.
Obviously for death crimes that involves a massacre of a great number of people, esp one that involves over 5-persons. In my jurisdiction I'd say that the penalty should be death straight up without any controversy or much probation.
When the situation involves robbery or attack, or when it's an act of self defence then I can welcome this question as a debate.
No one in actual sense holds the right to take the life of his fellow human based on the authority he wields.
Everyone at some point in time has had his share of flaws and short-ends, my final decision is that no one deserves to be sentenced to death by a fellow man. I mean NO-MAN!!!
Some years or even many years in prison is a just recompense.

Also, in many occasions some people has been killed and later on justice demonstrated they were innocents. Thanks for your reply!

Exactly what I mean, but imagine if they were to be serving time in jail then maybe the proof of their innocence were to be discovered, then it would be a just play to redeem them without grave consequences.

Great post!
Thanks for tasting the eden!

Congratulations to winners of Question54: If you were given the chance to change something in your life...what would it be?

Winners have been chosen randomly this time. The most voted on this question were @lavanyalakshman & @lavanyalakshman . Unfortunately your account activity as mentioned before is too souspicious. You have lots of votes from accounts which have no post/no followers and you are capitalizing the winning every day. I use bots to promote the post and a % of the earnings that the bots produce go towards the participants of the contest, there's nothing wrong with that, but cheating with lots of accounts goes againts steemit rules and I can't consent this to happen in my contest. Hope you understand.

My college friends accounts ,for giving their post they need time.I am also yelling them start your bloging but they tell we start soon. For that what i do,on asking help ,they give their vote .

@lavanyalakshman Do you think I can believe that? You have more than 30 or 40 accounts which constantly upvote your posts and give random comments like, "yes sir" "sure" and so on.
Do you really want me to believe that you have 40 friends that everyday are voting on your comment? You are going against steemit rules by doing that and making a bad favour to the whole community. Please refrain to comment on my contest as I do not want people clearly cheating on it to win and think about what you do.

Congratulations to the winners

nice post

Opinion about this complex issue often changes in people. if, suddenly it touched themselves, or their relatives, both in the direction of the prosecution, and in the direction of defense. In the Scripture it is written, as you want, that people would treat you, and act with others ..... that's my opinion.
If to exclude completely the judicial error ... then ... even in this case, let them live and repent in four walls.

I believe the death penalty should be abolished, because I don't trust the government of my own country. There are projects in the US, such as the Innocence Project, which complete DNA testing to prove that innocent people have been imprisoned and sometimes put on death row for crimes that others have committed. There is a very strong racial bias and class bias in the so-called criminal justice system of my country, and the government has even fabricated charges to eliminate dissident voices, such as the FBI campaign to eliminate the Black Panther Party. With a long and documented history of bias and outright criminal action taken by the government, I do not trust the power of life and death into their hands.

(Read up on the COINTELPRO Papers, if you don't know about the FBI campaign against the Panthers. While media portrayed the BPP as a criminal group, the Panthers actually put most of their effort into their "Survival Programs," such as driving elders to cash their social security checks and protecting them from robbers, feeding schoolchildren breakfast, running free clinics for poor people, and many, many more programs.)

Even setting aside the moral issue, hearing appeals for death row convicts in courts costs taxpayers tons of money. Taxes pay for prisons, generally, and also for the running of the courts, and death row inmates are entitled to appeals, which tie up their cases in the courts for decades, and cost so much money that could be used for the betterment of society. I support social safety nets, and I believe they have the power to reduce crime; I wish to see the money spent on death row appeals go towards programs that actually help people.

I agree with everything you said :) thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Thank you for asking the question! :)
