Even setting aside the moral issue, hearing appeals for death row convicts in courts costs taxpayers tons of money. Taxes pay for prisons, generally, and also for the running of the courts, and death row inmates are entitled to appeals, which tie up their cases in the courts for decades, and cost so much money that could be used for the betterment of society. I support social safety nets, and I believe they have the power to reduce crime; I wish to see the money spent on death row appeals go towards programs that actually help people.
