RE: STACH Short Story Contest #7: 199 words-10SBD prize pool!

in #contest7 years ago

Hey there! For my entry I decided to do something a tad out of the ordinary - It's a story without verbs (except for those in the song titles). It's a love story, no doubt, of difficult love in harder times for certain kinds of love than nowadays. Anyway, without further ado, coming in with 198 words, I give you:

No more phone calls

New times. Highschool. New friends, then more. Late night phone calls. Boybands. Less friends, but better. More phone calls. MMMBop. More boybands. Parties. Boys. Mistakes. Girls. More phone calls. Bullying. Less friends, more romance. Unmistaken. Girl. Friend. Girlfriend. Even more phone calls. Cellphones. Texts. Nighttime escapades. Stolen 6-packs. Kisses, and then some.

Prom night. Confusion. Overwhelming society. Anguish. Surrogates. Boys. Appearances. New mistakes. New doubt. Phone call. Nighttime escapade. Understanding. Forgiveness. Graduation. Decisions. College, the future. Love, the present. Lies, the past. College, together. Parents, honesty. Yin yang. Fierce resistance. Oppressive society. Appearances. College, apart. Bye bye bye. Corn dogs vs. baguettes.

Less phone calls, less texts. Lonely nights, busy days. College parties. Temptation. Doubt. Long distance phone calls. Studies, the future. Wish you were here. Less expensive phone calls, more MSN Messenger. Poems, in English. Poems, in French. Poems of love and poems of tears and tears from poems with love.

Graduation, at last. Reunion, at last. Marriage, impossible. Marriage, impossible? Stars and stripes, good bye. Eiffel Tower, àdieu. Two plane tickets, one destination. Last phone call. Nervous heart, dry mouth, cold feet. Tears, kisses, embraces. First day of my life. A toast with champagne and stroopwafels.

Sort:

I wish I really do understand your story. You tried putting so much together without verbs. Good job.
