Hi Everyone,

ThumBP11.jpg

Spectrum Economics is holding its eleventh solve the puzzle contest. This post contains 4 puzzles. The first person to solve all the puzzles wins 10 SBD (5 SBD for this contest plus another 5 SBD from last week’s contest). If we do not get a winner, the prize money of this contest will be added to the available winnings of the next puzzle contest.

How to Enter

To enter requires 1 upvote. Each entrant into the contest is only allowed 1 attempt. The attempt needs to be done in the comments section of the post. In previous contests, I have allowed 2 attempts but because of the number of responses I have been receiving, my steem power has been struggling to keep up.

Some questions have several parts to them, all parts of each question need to be answered correctly for a chance to win.

I expect the answers to be presented in following format:

Answer 1a, 1b, 1c
Answer 2
Answer ? = …, odd one out is …
Answer Bill should bet $... on Sprinter …. This gives a Bill …% chance of winning $1,000,000

The closing date and time for the contest is 6PM USA Eastern Time 28/01/2018. Responses after this time will not be accepted. The answers will be provided in the comments section after the contest closes. The explanations for the answers will be provided in a separate post a few days after the contest closes.

The winner of the contest will be announced in the comments section. The 10 SBD will be paid to the winner as soon as I receive the payout from the post. All attempts in the comments section will receive an upvote regardless of answers provided. That’s right, I am also rewarding participation. Good luck everybody. The value of the upvote will depend upon my voting power at the time.

Let the Contest Begin

We have reached the end of Puzzle Contest #11. I would like to congratulate @cryptobserver as the first person to provide all the correct answers.

The answers to the questions are as follows:

  1. 72, 24, 48
  2. 1
  3. 11, the odd one out is D
  4. Bill should bet between $15.17 and $15.99 on Sprinter B to have a 100% chance of winning the $1M prize. After rounding upwards, the answer is $16

I will be posting the explanations in another post very soon.

I would also like to thank all those that participated for their time and effort. I will have another contest in a few days time.

I think You have to review about 100 %. 100 % if he has record 13/0, not 12/1. It's not mathematical logic.

think about the task. It isnt 100% certain that Sprinter B wins, but if Bill bets between $15.17 and $15.99 it is 100% certain that he will have more money than Jack and therefore he will win certainly.

it's like You Throwing dice. If you throw a single dice, then it can fall six ways, each of which is equally likely if the dice is true. So the probability of getting one particular value is 1/6.

? = 11, odd one out is D
Answer Bill should bet $42 on Sprinter E. This gives a Bill 95,83% chance of winning $1,000,000

  1. A) 72
    B) 24
    C) 48
  2. 1
  3. 11 The odd one out is D.
  4. Bill knows that Jack must put his money on sprinter B to win, so he is 100% sure he will win 1.000.000 if he also puts money on sprinter B.So he can put 8 dollars or more on sprinter B to win 100%. He shouldn't put all his money on sprinter B in case sprinter B doesn't win.

I think your answer is correct and you give it first. Great job done.
It means .......SDB.....

4: Solution: Bill has to bet $16 on sprinter B, that way he has 100% chance of winning.

Explanation: This one is tricky. In sports betting, 1-12 odds means if someone bets $1, he will win $12 and gets his bet back, so he'll end up with $13. Jack can only win, if he bets on the B sprinter with all of his money ($99). If B wins, he'll have $99+99*$12=$1287. If Bill bets on any other sprinter, Jack wins with this if B wins the race, because only one sprinter can win the race at the same time. So Bill must bet on B too to secure his win. $1287-$1105=$182. So Bill has to win more than this amount. $182/12=15,16. So $15 isn't enough, but $16 is. He will end with $1105+$192=$1297, and is going to win the $1,000,000.

Q2 - 3

Q3 - 11

Q4 - Because Jack has 99$, he will bet his entire money on Sprinter B, and if B wins he'll have 1188$
Bill should bet on Sprinter B as well. more than 20$ it doesn't matter what will happen, Bill win win the 1,000,000$.
I don't know if it was the answer you were looking for, but it's just logic.

Because there is no way for Jack to win if he doesn't bet on Sprinter B. Bill knows that. So he knows that if he'll bet even 15-20$, he secure his win. 100%.

4. Bill can Bid $99 on other sprinters such as C,D,E for a sure win.
But to increase the chance, he will probably bet on Sprinter B. And, at most he can afford to bet $41.8333. Not a single penny more. In this way even if he loses by chance in the bet, he will still win the $1,000,000. In this case, the winning chance for him is 92.3%.

ODD ONE IS D

4 this one is quite interesting
bill should bet $15 on sprinterB because jack has only $99 and the highest pay he would get from bet after bill takes sprinter B is sprinterF and by luck if jack wins he will have total $99+99x10/1=$1089 but still bill would have $ 1090 even after losing bet which is $1 more than jack. bill has 100 percent win if he bets $15 even if he loses the bet. and he will win $ 1000000 from aunt.
