I will be running #spotthefake every Tuesday, and I will post a few pics of a few antiques. It may be antique lighting, antique furniture, or even top designer furniture. One or more will be fake or reproduction.

There were quite a few correct answers, but unfortunately, some entrants did not resteem, so they did not qualify for the Random Thing Picker draw.
The answer was the first image. The sconce is a fantastic reproduction piece I bought in Egypt. Cast for us at the shop, so possibly cast from an antique, but still, a reproduction. The second pic had proper gilding on, ie, it had a layer of gold leaf paper, in order to look more sumptuous. A lot of people commented on the bulbs, but it is important to remember that if a light has been restored/refurbed to go into a modern house, it will be rewired to meet all modern safety regulations.

I am training you all to be antique dealers! This weeks items are Veryyyy similar, but one is a proper vintage ship's light, that would have been lighting up the decks on a ship, and the other is an AMAZING copy!

This is tough indeed! What a great idea for a contest! I think image 2 is the original. Thereโs something about the texture of the brass, compared to the texture of the silvery one.

The answer to this week contest is the image one. Image one is the fake one. My reason is that the image one is very well polished, while image two is not well polished.
Image one has more of the aluminum on the outside which brings in the modern art in it, and the brass part is just at the rim so that It won't look rough. I hope I am right. (Finger crossed)

the aluminium one is the real one image 1. I could explain in my lanquage why, but have no idea what vleugelmoer is in english :-)

Lol no, vleugel is wing and moer uh a screw on peace ๐ i ask my husband later, he is english.
Moer is also old ugly dutch for mother. Not to your mother, when sombody calls you something, you can say : say yhat to your old moer... and maybe that is afrikaans: help something to the malle moer.... breaking something ... malle is than crazy...

My eyes tell me image 2 contains the fake piece, the second one seems like some sort of painting was made to make it look old. On the first one, although it's shinning if you zoom it in on the front cover. You will notice that it has not been polished completely. It still shows old marks. Also the label Wiska is a bit old
