๐ธWHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?๐ธ
I will be running #spotthefake every Tuesday, and I will post a few pics of a few antiques. It may be antique lighting, antique furniture, or even top designer furniture. One or more will be fake or reproduction.
It's up to you to #spotthefake. Post your choice in the comments, and maybe let me know why you think that.
๐ธRULES๐ธ
- To enter, you must upvote and resteem my post
- Leave your choice in the comments, you can choose one image, two images, or all the images - it's up to you ๐๐

- I will take all the correct answers, of the qualifying entries and do a random draw with this site
๐ธLAST WEEK'S WINNER๐ธ
Well done, @theluckygem. You are the winner!
There were quite a few correct answers, but unfortunately, some entrants did not resteem, so they did not qualify for the Random Thing Picker draw.
The answer was the first image. It is a very, very good reproduction piece, bought in Egypt. For me, the dead giveaway is the handles and other brassware. They are quite big and clunky, compared to the fine, detailed handles on the original antique piece that was in the second pic.
๐ธ SPOT THE FAKE #03 - ๐ธ BRASS WALL SCONCE WITH CRYSTAL ๐ธ
Ooohhh!! This is a difficult one! The copy in this round is a fantastic reproduction, and when I first saw it, I had to double check with my boss where he bought it!
To enter, you must UPVOTE, RESTEEM and guess the correct image! Answer will be revealed this time next week!

๐ธThank you for your participation, I am super excited to see my contest grow and grow!๐ธ
Hi @princessmewmew, nice meeting you. I just joined steemit and I have been loving what I have been experiencing here. All kind of contests. It's interesting. I will try too always follow your contests. I might be lucky.
Back to the answer. I thinks the first image is the fake one. My reason being that the image one's bulb holder has a kind of label written on it and the art work is all clustered together. The what looks like a candle is finely designed and the crystals are finely attached to each other and placed.
I hope I am right.
oh hi @seyiodus! Welcome :)
Glad to hear you are loving life here on planet Steem
I'll send you a wallet message next week when the answers are revealed !
Ciao for now
Thanks.
You are the WINNNNNERRR!!

Really? Thanks a lot. I can't believe that I am the winner. I am so glad. Thanks again @princessmewmew
IT's a pleasure! I am so pleased you won!
Good post, I have no idea what is fake or not when it comes to funiture, etc....News stories yes
thank you so much! you can still take a guess! You could win 5 SBD ๐
Hi there, this seems tricky. But I'm going to say the first is fake. The complexity to electrify that sconce would be extremely hard as if this was cast during an antiquity period the unlikely the arms would have been hollow. Modern casting would have allowed these to be hollow for this purpose.
Thats my theory.

Yay I actually got it right basically for the right reasons as well. Pity i didn't win :( Still a cool competition :)
You were very close to being correct. Actually, now that we are so far in the 2000's, an antique is anything from 1917, and they had electricity then! Before then, there were quite a few lights that ran on gas, and these would have had hollow arms too.
If a light has those solid arms you are talking of, you know they are SUPER old, and definitely date back to before 1820.
history lesson concluded ๐ ๐ ๐

I would say that they are both fake, because they are electric and using plastic crystals that aren't showing any rainbows in the light.
LOLz! Any light made after 1910 (or when electricity was installed in most households) would be able to have electrical wire, and even before then if the brass arms were not solidly cast the electrical wires can still be fitted)
All the crystals are proper hand polished lead crystals, definitely not plastic!
Thank you for your comment, I'll reveal the answer next Tuesday!
Well...it was worth a shot.
But, of the two, the top one looks less fake due to its lack of symmetry.
It is definitely worth a shot - 5 sbd to win! Yay, thanks for your entry ๐๐
Congrats to the winner ๐
My guess here is that the first one is fake ๐
But hey I could be wrong... Lol
๐ค Thank you for this!

I believe image 2 is fake

thanks for playing - Answer and new post is up here
Hi my princess...
I am very happy to continue to follow the contest you make, it is very unique and difficult also to guess. But this time I'm pretty sure that picture no 2 is fake, it's clearly visible from the apparently less impressive model and I think it's like a counterfeit merchandise. May I be right. ๐
Thank you for your weekly contest and rewards from every of our participation :)
Hi @coretan! Thank you so much for your entry! I am so glad you entered again!
ah, boo! you are not correct this time! Answer and new post is up here
I think image one is fake.
The other one looks pretty old~the bulb holders and the look of thin wires holding the crystals together says its antique.in my opinion๐
HHmmm, some very good observations there, Sherlock!
Will post next week to reveal the answer!
Waiting eagerly๐
new post with Answer is up here
Image two is the fake one
Hi @anjiba!
Thank you for your entry! Great to see a new face

Image 1 is fake
yay! glad you entered again :) Answer and new post is up here
Thank you @princessmewmew !!!!!
Have a great day :)
Hi @princessmewnew, this is my first attempt and hope to take part in your future calls.
Well for this pick i say image 1 is fake with regards to the bulbs. I can't make a detailed scientific explanation but the coils seem more complicated to be old and it's lable doesn't seem to be old too
Hi @troynamps - good observation ๐
BUT antique lighting has very strict regulations, and so will be stripped of any old electrics/bulbs and replaced with modern fittings.
I will let you know the answer on Tuesday! ๐
Well that's good to know, i have learnt something new. Thanks for the insight
thank you for entering - Answer and new post is up here
This one! (pointing at it)
?? ๐๐๐๐
Thanks for the contest @princessmewmew! I think image 2 is the fake one, brass work looks too new. The crystals are reflecting awesome colors in Image 1, the real one....I think ;)
Answer and new post is up here
upvoted and resteemed, I even Followed you as you were not on my following list ;)
I choose the first picture, I believe its FAKE because if you take a closer look on the right bulb on the top side, the wall behind it seems to be bending on the right and not 90% vertical which identifies the photo as photoshopped or manipulated with.. a further look behind the bulb I notice whitish glimmerish like a painting been wiped with wet tissue...it adds to my suspicion that the first image is the fake one :)
Good luck for the winner and I hope i win !!
thank you for your very indepth comment! Answer and new post is up here
happy hunting friends all
I'm guessing image two is the fake one, the brass? work seems less intricate and looks like it's made from a mould whereas number one has finer details and an overall more classy look.
ah, boo, that is actually the antique one, believe it or not ! Answer and new post is up here
Heyy. This is an interesting contest going on- like the idea a lot :) I think the second brass wall scone is fake because the brass is just too shiny. Hope I'm right :)
Answer and new post is up here
hi @princessmewmew! I'm guessing the second one is fake. FSL bulbs were first produced in the 1950s so the first one could have made during that time. Plus, the design on the first one is more detailed and intricate. The second image is just too perfect. Idk. I'm not an expert but I think it's fake. lol
Not quite! Answer and new post is up here
Hi @princessmewmew! My guess goes to the image 2. It is the fake one but I am not sure. I just based my answer on the candles` looks.
Answer and new post is up here
Hey @princessmewmew, definitely image 1 is fake
Answer and new post is up here
First time i Play, i love this! I like antiques but not all :-) From this picture i think the second one is the fake, it think the candle are made older on purpose and the arms are very rough poured. Curious !
glad you loved this!! Answer and new post is up here
i said the second one was fake but i do not see my name in the thingpicker, or are all the wright guessers not on there? Did i forget to upsteem or vote. Sorry form my question, but i was wandering? @princessmemewmew
Hi @janine-ariane! The first image is the fake!
