WHEN LOVE FLIES.
May the chilly winds of time
Forget to blow on the hot
Embers of my love for life.

The chilly breeze seeped in through the chinks of the window pane, buoyed by the damp weather which had refused to lift although it was mid-afternoon.
Eugenia and her husband of fifty years sat on a narrow bench that had seen better days. She drew close to Andrew who had become hard of hearing after an accidental explosion in the mine where he worked. The wind echoed a melancholy tune outside.
Do you know Andrew, that we’ve spent fifty years as a married couple?’ she said, a bit too loud for his benefit.
‘Yes’, he responded, in a way that suggested he wished that was not true.

They reminisced on when their marriage was young and life consisted of roses, apples, and picnics; that golden period of their marriage before life took a roundabout turn for the ugly.

‘After all these years, I’ve found you tried and true’. She said, not loud enough.
‘What!’ Andrew shouted.
‘You are tired of me? After all we’ve been through together”.
‘You know what, I’ve never loved you neither, faithless hag’.
