[WIN UP TO 4SBD!] What's the Best Thing a Child Has Taught You?? (Anyone can enter!) + Introducing STEEMmamas!!

in #contest6 years ago

Sometimes, it's the children in our lives that teach us the best lessons. Though they may be little, they can sometimes bring out important concepts that us adults need to be reminded of.

To bring more awareness to my new Discord community for moms -- STEEMmamas (more on this below) -- I am running a writing competition all about Teaching Moments from Children!!

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A MOM, OR EVEN A PARENT, TO ENTER THIS CONTEST!

Men and women are both encouraged to enter, and you can talk about a lesson that any child in your life has taught you. It could be a niece/nephew, student, child you babysit, or a neighbor's kid. Just tell us a story about any child -- let's say age 10 and under -- who influenced your life in some way.

Steps for Entering the Teaching Moments from Children Contest

  1. Resteem this post. We want to bring out more stories of children teaching life lessons on Steemit!
  2. Write an original post (published after this contest post) about a time a child taught you an important lesson.
  3. In your post, link to the STEEMmamas Discord: https://discord.gg/MVNw8NH (Just a brief nudge to join the community is fine, but more details are appreciated!)
  4. Use the tag #steemmamas for your entry post
  5. Comment on this post with a link to your entry!

Introducing STEEMmamas!

The fine mamas and I have come up with this contest to bring more awareness to our small community. We have just begun, but we want to grow! We want to be THE place for all the moms on Steemit to come and chat, seek advice, get support and encouragement, and rant about all things related to motherhood!

In the future, we plan to do curated posts for parents and maybe homeschooling, more contests, and other fun things to increase engagement and make Steemit a great place for moms to be!

Join the STEEMmamas Community Now: https://discord.gg/MVNw8NH

Fine Print for the Contest

Three winners will be selected by me and a couple of STEEMmamas (who will not be entering the contest) If all STEEMmamas enter, I will share the entries with moms I know in real life to vote on the best story!

We will be judging on story telling and the use of images to portray the lesson you learned from a child. Spelling or grammar won't be judged, but please do your best to publish this post in proper English.

First place will be awarded 4 SBD, with two honorable mentions receiving 2 SBD each!

Entries will be accepted until 11:00 PM EST on March 29, 2018, and winner will be announced by April 2!

I went back and edited my post to follow the contest rules since I forgot about the discord link. Think I've got everything covered now, so here's mine!

This is such an awesome idea. I may not be a momma, but I learn from my kids all the time. @eaglespirit and @moneyinfant told me about this contest and I am glad that they did. Here is a post I did about my daughter teaching us a lesson through her poetry:

Lovely entry! (and glad you found it).

poofy LOL :)

I love this! I'm on my way to bed in a few minutes, so I'll write my entry tomorrow. The hard thing will be picking only one lesson. Hm...

this seems such a great contest great idea

Gorgeous comp, I’ll have a think on this one. My brain is often garbled when it comes to my kids. :)

Hooray for the very first #steemmamas contest. Best of luck to everyone who shall be joining. 😍

Hey Mamas! Here's my entry...

I hope I am able to try this one. Will try my best. #steemmamas.

@moneyinfant has added your contest to the list Steemit Writing Contests: Issue #56. The list is updated on a daily basis and your contest will remain on the list until its expiration - there's nothing you need to do.

The list was created to save writers the excessive amount of time spent searching through the #contest tag for writing contests. Now they can just come to the list each day, see new contests and use their time doing what they love - writing.

If you'd like to help spread the word about the Steemit Writing Contest List I'd really appreciate a resteem, but it certainly isn't necessary. The project is simply meant to help writers save time and contest creators attract more contestants.

P.S. If you know of any contests I've missed I'd love to hear about them. Thanks!

So nice to see this! I am sure there are lots of things that kids have taught all of us. Ha! Like how to keep the toothpaste up high enough that it doesn't all get squeezed out by curious hands... ;) I am looking forward to seeing the entries! :)

Will support. Now I have to get the brain moving, thanks @keciah! Will take note of the small details too to promote #steemamas! :)

your is the best

What an absolutely FANTASTIC idea to start a community for Steemit moms! It will no doubt be a HUGE success!!!!

Hooray!! This will be the beginning of many awesome posts! Can't wait!! 💓💓💓

This is awesome! Our first mama contest and what a good one too. Like someone says it is hard to just pick one! Resteemed and upvoted!

I have two nieces and one nephew. All three are under 10. The things they say and do on a daily are at times just incredible. Now I have to decide between posting about them or about my learners at school.

This is a great initiative and I can tell it will be successful.

What a sweet idea!! Mine are now 20 and 23, but I'll have to think on this one for a bit :) And I love the idea of steemmamas! Especially when kids are little, I find the support of other moms is so so soooo necessary ;)

Cheers!!

Wow @keciah! This is such a cool challenge and having learned lots of great things from my son, I am too excited to participate in it. Resteemed it now thinking of making a post on it.

Yeah great contest, our children are our best teachers. xx

It's ironic because while children are young and don't have a lot of life experience, their hearts and intentions are pure. They are kind and their minds have not been tainted with the greediness and selfishness of human nature. We can learn a thing or two from them.

Probably not going to enter the comp itself but still going to share a lesson.

lesson prejudice

Watching Aladdin with my 6-7 year old niece we got to the part where Aladdin was ment to use his last wish to free the genie but went back on his word.

Taking the opportunity to teach I started to talk with her how it was sad and disappointing that Aladdin would betray his friend and break his word for personal gain.

"The genie doesn't count, he is blue he is not even a person."

Taught me that even tho children aren't born racist they are born with the need to identify and lable those they consider "us"

That if you want to fight prejudice its not enough to not say bad things about other cultures you have to take the time to show where they are like you.
