Ah a mermaid, every pirate's dream. Acceptable.
I imagine her to be 'enchanted' because the mermaid is actually the pirate captain's lady love...cursed to be his ship's wooden figurehead by day...and only turning into her true mermaid self as the sun goes down and during the night hours. <3
