How to get off Facebook addiction (+earn 0.1 SBD)

How can pornography help us understand the deceptiveness of Facebook? Look here, I have found Facebook and Porn - 7 Similarities:

  1. If you have the Internet, you have very easy access to them. So whoever becomes a potential user from the time they bought their Internet connection.
  2. Everything can start very early. On Facebook you can create an account if you say you are 12 years old, most boys see the first porn element around the age of about 10 years.
  3. The novelty continues. You can always go over something new that gives you interest. You are continually bombarded by other sources of incitement: profiles, pages, statuses, links, pictures, applications.
  4. You become more and more involved as you use them and you start to form very specific preferences.
  5. Determines similar digital behavior: Click Click, Multiple Tabs Described, Specific Quests, Surprise Rush - Shock - Excitement.
  6. It distances you from what real activity offers: physical contact, pheromones, emotional connection, real interaction.
  7. You do not know / think you have a problem until you start asking questions or until you evaluate other behaviors.

The effect of Facebook on your brain?

If it is to move on with Facebook's comparison of pornography, I can think that Facebook is one of the new forms of mental masturbation. Every time you give something interesting that surprises you or every time you post something, you release a quantity of dopamine (the hormone that is released by your brain's reward system).

The same is true of pornography. Porn dependents, they go from movie to movie, trying to discover something that will lead them to climax.

„Post something on Facebook. Dopamine. You get a liking. Dopamine. You receive a message that you are appreciate for the holiday picture. Dopamine.”

That's how it takes 45 minutes without realizing it. Even worse, Facebook makes you waste your time and it does not give you any climax. You see, our brain does a very bad job, being very vulnerable to impulses.

The difference between "social in real life" and "social in the virtual environment"

Consciously, the differences between online and offline social interactions may be negligible, but at the neuro level, your brain will be more recognizable if you focus on developing relationships in real life. By concentrating on the development of relationships in real life, you will stimulate the transmission of other hormones for which your body will please:

oxytocin (love hormone)
serotonin (the hormone of happiness)

What is certain and should be retained, the excess of dopamine, although it makes us feel great, leads to hyperactivity and decreased concentration power, which we felt on our own skin, which made me run the next experiment of desire to regain my ability to concentrate.

My experiment: 3 weeks without Facebook

I uninstalled the app from my phone and I deregistered from all the browsers on my laptop. In this way, I prevented myself by checking the Facebook reflex. After 3 weeks I can conclude that I have not lost anything.

I started new projects where I have already created content and have set out what I want to do this year. At work I was more productive than normal. My level of concentration has grown significantly. I can stay out of Facebook for days, because the thought of "losing something" no longer exists. My main fear was that I would break the "social" contact and feel disconnected from friends and family for 3 weeks. However, fear is totally unfounded, if someone has something to say to you, it will find a way to send you a message, you have too many alternatives (Whatsapp or Email) to attach yourself of that fear.

Signs that you might be addicted to Facebook

The following behaviors may make you understand that Facebook has a more important role in your life and it may affect you negatively:

  1. Oversharing. You say too much about yourself, post things that you would not want a recruiter to see.
  2. Obsessive checking of your account to see if anyone else said anything. Give frequent refreshments, jump out of bed to check what has happened, check your profile before going to the bathroom and after you return from the bathroom.
  3. Excessive attachment to the "self" you've created on Facebook. You created an online mask that you feed with cute pictures that you applied filters and post things that you want to always put in the best light.
  4. Go to likes / shares / friends. You change your profile picture just to get some likes, evaluate your popularity by how many friend requests you get.
  5. Compromising real-life activities. Delay meetings, miss deadlines, avoid various events in your life because you spend too much time on Facebook.
  6. Reports of trivial events in your life. Check in every location you come across, describe each activity that you do, or report it with a status.
  7. Navigate between pictures and profiles without any destination. You go from click to click until you realize that you have lost 1 hour without realizing.

Help yourself in 7 steps

  1. Recognize that you have a problem. It's the first step in solving any detness. A classic but essential step.
  2. Evaluate the severity. If you do not think you have to see how much time you spend on Facebook. If the time you spend on FB is ok, then you do not have a problem.
  3. Disable email notifications. Get rid of the lost time to mark it as a read message from Facebook, you will not come in every time you check out an email.
  4. Uninstall app on mobile / tablet. The most useful thing I did for me. I uninstalled the app that gave me access to all Facebook options, I only kept Facebook Messenger, because I keep in touch with my friends at home.
  5. Block / Limit the time spent on Facebook.
  6. Find a loved one. Maybe it sounds funny, but being together with someone can drastically reduce your time on a social network that you practically use to get attention.
  7. Replace the time you spend on Facebook with another recreational activity that benefits you. Start a sport, start a project that will take you a little longer, invest time in classes.

Trust me, you have a genuine point on this one, the disadvantages of Facebook is even more than its benefits.
