When learning a new language you need to practice every day and immerse yourself in the culture as well as the language. If you had someone to speak with in Spanish every day you would be fluent very quickly. When we moved to Costa Rica we knew zip, zilch Spanish. We learned really quickly, the boys faster than my husband or me.
