Thanks to all the entries for the Cringe question... there were quite a few entries, but most were a slightly off topic! Anyway, no matter... it was still fun to read the replies! Also, apologies for the late posting of this edition of the Basic Income Question... no excuses, just falling behind!
Anyway, this week... I was thinking about how different people react in new situations... and how everyone has their "favourite" place in the room. Some people like to have a wall at their back... some people like to be in the middle of everything... others are completely oblivious to how they position themselves! Anyway, a quite deceptively simple question for this wekk...
My Question
- When you enter a room (empty or full of people...), what is your "favourite" place in the room? The place that you feel most comfortable in?
My sample answer
The Corner! Despite the fact that I'm a musician, and as such... on stage, I'm front and centre in the middle of the "room"... my natural inclination is to be sitting (if possible, on the floor... I'm happy with that!) in the corner of a room. I hate to be noticed... and often, I dislike being drawn into chit-chat conversations. I like to be in the quiet corner with a couple of close friends, just talking quietly amongst ourselves... or better still, in the corner with a comic, book or a computer game... not talking to anyone! I guess it comes across un-friendly at times... but especially before a concert, I just like to have my own space!
That said, if the need arises... I can still come to the centre of the room, to talk and socialise and do all of that stuff. Even give a speech or something like that if necessary... after all, that is the focus of my training and profession! So, it isn't difficult... just not my preference!
Rules
- Upvote is not required, but appreciated!
- Resteem is NOT necessary!
- In the comments, answer as best as you can the questions that are posed in the "My Questions"!
- I have added a small Steem-Bounty to the post, so that everyone who replies with a valid entry will get something back. If I give your post a small upvote, it is valid (also, subscribe to @dustsweeper for maximum benefit!).
- I will be sponsoring as many people as this post pays out in liquid SBD/STEEM. Also I will kick in at least the required amount to round up to the full number. Winner is by random generator after a shortlisting of quality comments!
- PLEASE PLEASE Don’t upvote your OWN comment. I can’t stop you doing it, but it seems to mess up the distribution of the Bounty for everyone else. If you upvote your own comment, I will consider it an invalid entry when doing the draw.
Steem Basic Income
One of the first communities that I came in contact with at the beginning of my time at Steemit was @steembasicincome. As a author starting out on your fresh new Steemit account, Steemit can be a daunting and lonely place to be. OFten, it can feel like you are posting into an abyss with no one listening and with no ability to grow out of the situation. A share of Steem Basic Income gives you a guaranteed vote on one post a day, thus giving you a small but over time cumulative support to your account to help grow you out of your initial wilderness!
With this post, I want to help sponsor people who might not even have the spare 1 STEEM that is required for registration. So, when this post pays out, I will sponsor people depending on the payout of this post. Basically, I will round up the SBD payout from this post and then that will be the number of people I will sponsor. (So, if the payout is 2.3 SBD, I will sponsor 3 people). OF course, this is not simply an altruistic move, as the sponsor of a Steem Basic Income share also gets a share, so it is a great way to help others whilst helping yourself!
Last week's winners
The last post paid out 0.21 SBD and 1.236 STEEM in liquid earnings. So, that would make 3 shares.
The winners by random draw are:

The corner, against a wall and for sure not in between.a lot of people plus I like to see the door.
I like places where I can see everything, so probably the corner. I like to see and not to be seen

Nice, so you like to observe... My kids love doing that as well!

My favorite place in a room would have to be off to the side a bit. Definitely not in the center of attention, just close enough to know what's going on, but far enough away to not be obligated to participate.

Ah... the best of both worlds? Or the worst?
Eh... somewhere in between. 😉

Sometimes it is the corner for me but it depends on the obstacles in the room. I like to take place somewhere where I can observe the entire room and everyone in it, scan it and carefully look at everything. If there is a step or a higher ground, it is a good choice of course and if there is an exit close to my position that it truly is perfect. :D
This is similar to my answer and I think you worded it well. My natural inclination is to gather visual information and my position is adjusted subconsciously to what is safest and most comfortable at the time. In unfamiliar places, knowing the exit points allows me to feel much more relaxed for some reason.
Ha, similar ideas... corner with safety... and a touch of height for vantage! I wonder how many people we can fit in those small spaces!

My favourite place in the room is always the centre as I like to come up with an interesting topic each time depending on the people around me. Be it a news, llcricket match, pc or mobile gaming or even steem.
I generally love to hang out with friends at a one of my friend's home. We gossip for hours there and disscuss about a random topic everyday.
Such a great question man. I really loved it. Keep it going.

Ah! You are one of the cool kids in the middle! It's great that you enjoy it though, I find it too stressful and there is just too much going on!

My comfort place is - out of the room!)
Why sunny summer days - lets go to the beach & water!)
Hah! Thanks for the lateral take on the question!

Thanks for the lucky draw ! hugs and kisses
My favourite place in the room depends entirely where the computer is. After all I’m on it most of the time. So if it’s at the corner, or at the middle, that’s where I’d be. Of coz where will te computer typically be setup ? It has to be setup where it is cool. Hence it is likely at the point where the air conditioner has its cool air vent pointed at.

Ha ha! Yes, I guess the air conditioned part of the room would be a great place to set up!

@bengy, I never find a comfort zone when i enter into a room because in my opinion no matter in which event we are going or in which situation we are we should face the front by taking the front seat.
You like the front? ARRRRGH! That would be my least favourite place!
Ha ha....... 😁

I like the edge of the room - not so much a corner, but someplace quiet where I can see all the action. And I do not want my back to the door!
Thank you for the opportunity to compete for sbi. I really like that program and buy shares or try to win them when I can :)
The edge would definitely be my second favourite spot... somehow, there is something nice feeling about a wall behind you... not sure why, it's not like someone is going to sneak up on you!

If I enter a room full of people, I will immediately go to the window, because then, I can breathe fresh air, and it will not make me feel too stuffy. In addition, I can also enjoy the scenery outside the window and the people who observe the road.
That's a really good idea, fresh air and the view outside!... And an easy escape if required!

I also like the corners a lot! Don't like to be in the middle of the room. Too crowded.
If the corners are occupier than it would be the less crowded place of the room!
... Or is the occupied corners that push people to the middle?

My favorite place is in front of the door. Because when you open the door with the glass and put a cushion in front of the door, the wind blows very well and I get cool. And not everyone can get in and out of the room. My favorite place in front of the door because of the heat
Ah ha, I think we are onto something! A few people have suggested doors or windows or places with good air ventilation! Interesting, I hadn't thought of that!

I initially stake out a position in the corner, but not too antisocial. It allows me a view of the entire room, and I can see who is coming and going. This allows me to not miss out on seeing people at an event.
If it is a crowed gathering, this strategy doesn't work well, but it gives me a starting point to move through the room and not miss anyone.

Thanks for the SBI!
Ah... An early tactical advantage is moving in to the melee! I like it!
My usual go to, especially in a large room, is a median area that's both unobstructed and closest to the main exits. If I can't escape a situation quickly I start to feel claustrophobic. Otherwise, like at home, I like dimly lit parts of the room I'm in. Enough to read, but not bright to strain my eyes.
Oh yes, dimmer areas are the best! Rooms that are too brightly lit are really quite garish...

I would probably keep you company... in the corner, if possible on the floor... :0)
It really depends, actually. When I'm sure about what is 'expected' from me, i.e. among my close friends in a situation I'm familiar with, I don't really mind getting into attention that much. But from the moment there's one factor that's out of my comfort zone, I prefer a corner and the floor. I'd prefer being invisible, if that would be possible.
I hate getting into unfamiliar situations, and I have a tendency to become very shy. It does happen that people mistake my shyness for arrogance...
It's the main reason you won't come across me on an event like Steemfest. Oh... the thought alone makes me want to run and hide somewhere, lol
... under the table? I remember when I was a kid that our parents would let us play under the table when we had family dinners with other family friends. Somehow, that sort of feeling has stayed with me... and if it wasn't too weird for an adult to do that then I would... but somehow, it seems okay for kids to do it... less so for a grown adult.
... I also get your feeling about mistaking shyness for arrogance... I think my wife gets mistaken for being unfriendly... me too sometimes!
Under the table sounds pretty good, actually. Even better than the corner.
I think it's not fair that you can't do that no more once you're an adult. Maybe I'll give it a try some time...
