Stairwell Walls - February 16, 2020 @goldenoakfarm

After spending most of last week with the flu, on Saturday he made calls to contractors. The foundation guy was supposed to pour the cellar floor last week, but we never saw him and haven’t been able to reach him. My husband spoke with the electrician and gave him the electrical plans on Saturday. He plans to start in March.

The plumber had been out and looked it over and said he’d get us an estimate last week. Not heard from him. We’ve not heard from the masonry guy either, but last we heard he was starting in April.

On Sunday he started putting up walls for things he could like the stairwell. Monday he was double checking the measurements of things in the kitchen so he could figure out what he needs for wood for the L wall.

A lot of items like the bathroom cabinet, foreground, and vanity and the utility sink for the laundry room have come in. On Monday he picks up the walls to the shower. He also needs to pick up more lumber for the laundry room walls and for the L of the kitchen cabinets. He’s got about 2 weeks to get the walls built for the electrician.

I’ve been doing the estimating and have it nearly done. I’m working on the last thing, the siding, on Monday. That’s why there’s been no posts, it’s very boring dry stuff.

So it looks like we are off to the races now, the work resumes.

Coming out nicely! It’s been a tough time looking for contractors to do things. We tried for a year to get someone to replace our windows. Finally got someone to do it, a very nice feeling.

I enjoy the inside work of an open space like that, keeps you out of the elements and you can see it all come together.

Thankfully it’s been a pretty mild winter as far as snow, though this latest cold snap is tough because we would love for spring to come so we can be outside.

Thanks! Things should speed up a lot in the next few weeks as he preps for the contractors. The very cold weather does slow him down.... but it's mostly been mild, as you say, very unusual for this area of New England.

Isn’t it odd how you schedule something with a contractor and you then have to bug them about getting back to you or showing up? It’s been my experience... We try to do all our own work because of it... plus the whole permitting thing in our area is a shame so we try to avoid it when we can... (not that what we do is not to code...most of the time) (;

We are doing as much as we can ourselves. But plumbing and electrical require a license....

Is there a shortage for people doing manual labor? That is crazy that they haven't gotten back to you to do the job. I am really looking forward to seeing the finished bathroom. Have fun. : )

The bathroom was only the one I posted about because it turned out to be the hardest to pull together. There's going to be a brand new kitchen, a dining room, a living room, a pantry, a laundry room, a cedar closet, a new office and another bedroom, when all's said and done. Don't hold breath for the bathroom, it's well down the list... It will be at least 2 years before it's all done, maybe longer.

The foundation guy called last night, he will be here this morning to pour the floor. So now we are REALLY off to the races!

OK. Thanks for letting me know. It will be fun to watch all of the rooms progress.

Maybe the foundation guy called because his ears were burning. LOL!
