RE: Swane's Golden Pencil Pine

in #conifers6 years ago

Swanes Golden is a very popular evergreen conifer with a narrow form and aromatic, flecked golden foliage and deeper golden tips. A very useful tree as a ornamental specimen, along driveways and in containers.

A very narrow, columnar form with magnificent, bright, golden yellow new growth that retains good color throughout the season. A stunning specimen on its own, this selection makes great impact when used in mass plantings as an evergreen screen, windbreak, or tall hedge.

It features dense, green to golden yellow evergreen foliage that can be clipped to shape or left to its own elegant outline. Being naturally pencil-thin they really can be left to their own devices and still look very elegant.

A narrow tree with dense, upright branching and bright yellow foliage. Juvenile leaves are seen only on young seedlings and the adult gland-less scale leaves are compact and lateral clasping the stem with an abrupt pointed apex. This coniferous tree forms an upright and fastigiate too broad spreading habit.Grown as a single specimen or in large group plantings along avenues.

They make excellent screens or hedges but are also seen in formal gardens creating a majestic impact when planted along driveways and broad paths.
