Molecular condom made of chemicals

Researchers from the University of California have found a potentially new form of contraceptive, which can become equally effective for women and for men - that is, universal. At the same time, it does not carry with itself any hormonal side effects, the developers note.
In a recent study, experts from the US showed how the two chemicals that were found in plants can in fact take away from the sperm the ability to penetrate the egg.

Researchers tested chemical components that can actually "sabotage" the crouching culmination of the entire sperm journey. Specialists have found that lupeol and prismimerine show the most promising results in stopping this process.

So, lupeol is found in aloe, as well as grapes, olives, cabbage, mango and dandelion root. And pristimerin occurs a little less often, for example, it can be found in the vine of Tripterygium wilfordii.

Scientists have found out that both plants contain components that can block the key moment of conception due to their spermicidal properties. The contraceptive created on their basis will become a real "molecular condom", which places the spermatozoa to make the final "push" to the egg.

Preparations based on aloe vera and Wilford's tryptegirium can become emergency contraceptives for taking before and after sex, and also as an addition to existing methods like rings and bandages. In this case, the drug will not affect the production of hormones and will become much less dangerous for the body of a woman, the biologists concluded.

The researchers found that these chemicals can negate the natural reaction of sperm to progesterone. According to experts, this method is ten times more efficient than other means of birth control that exist today in the market. The authors call this method a "molecular condom".

The results of the experiments are expected by the end of the year. And if the method is recognized effective, the researchers intend to take the next barrier and begin testing with the participation of people who can be completed within a few years. Perhaps, in the near future a new effective contraceptive will appear on the market.

By the way, recently in Europe the application for a smartphone was recognized as an effective contraceptive, and the carpenter from Germany tests the device for "turning off" sperm.
