RE: The Dumpster Dive Challenge! Win 10 SBD!!

in #competition7 years ago (edited)

Its obvious that you havent heard of the term "dumpsterdive" before, so Im happy to introduce you, theres no actually diving into a dumpster involved. Unless you live in a country with no mainstream westernized supermarkets, you would know that food is wrapped in alot of packaging - another problem in the world. I guess I was lucky because the first "career" I thought I needed to have a good life was cheffing for 4 years and so I learnt the basics of foods without relying on a government capitalistic sell by date on it. Anybody who has even the thought of maggot covered foods linked to dumpsterdiving isnt really the kind of people I would expect to give this a try anyway..

Some places you can go get an agreement with them that you get it before they trash it but like I say , in europe theres like so much packaging, im afraid more of all the plastic than some mould on an apple hahaha..

I think you should take part in this competition @marionbowes! Do something cool and proove the mind wrong !

If someone in this competition, goes to the local store and finds a trash can full of maggots, then what sane person would even think to rumage though that? obviously one would take a picture of the maggots, and say in their post "There were maggots so yeh", and they would recieve 3 SBD for their attempt. Not really sure where your comming from without linking your past with this now, but anyway thanks for your thoughts and feelings on this great idea!

Edit added: Your answer to this quote.. "Using a Bot to encourage this behaviour is a double whammy. Shame on you."

Im happy that you have never met an anarchistic freak before, Hi ! ✋

Yes, I have heard the term. However in this Country it is against the law for stores to give food away that they wont sell. which is totally stupid. like I said I have worked in them. The large chains were just as bad as the small retail. I sadly have been forced to throw out tons of food. Also worked in a restaurant. Same nonsense. Perhaps a better term could be used, since sadly I have seen people looking for things in dumpsters. I dont need to do this, but I do give to the local food banks in large quantities. Also anyone who wants can have what I grow here for free, or I will barter.

People seem to think its all about MONEY , "If I have enough money, then why should I buy food?" and the phycological game of the ego creeps in also.. Heres a great example of the mentality of our conditioned mind, A friend said to me in England "if I didnt have to buy food , I dont know what id spend my money on."..
One time I was getting food from the regular food container, and a worker came out and had a go at me saying I was a tramp, I should get a job bla bla bla or should I say Baa Baa Baa. I asked him a personal question - how much money do you have in your bank account? He didnt answer. I walked over to him and produced my neck pouch from under my tshirt, and pulled out 5000 euro in cash as i was working at the time on a building project. I fanned the cash out under his shocked eyes, and I said, "it dosnt matter how much money I have, why the hell should I go in the store there and support this insanity, the food is poisoned with chemicals and im expected to work for it when its here in the trash?"

We all decide how we live, you can either stay in the box of society, or you can live alternativly exactly how I , and many others are doing and have done. The world is far from what it seems :)

edit , i get the feeling as you grow food yourself that youve already gone abit away from society?

That's great you did that. I agree - it doesn't matter how much cash you have, if you can get stuff through other people's waste, good on you. We've always had enough to get by - never needed exactly to dumpster dive but we did coz it was there and we had money to spend on other things, like making the truck liveable and saving cash to get to Australia and so on. And yeah, why do we have to work for stuff they throw away?

but we did coz it was there and we had money to spend on other things, like making the truck liveable and saving cash to get to Australia and so on. And yeah, why do we have to work for stuff they throw away?

Thats exactly what its about for me, if I work, I dont want to pay to live. I want to pay for things that will improve the quality of LIFE and not just to keep me alive in a slaves world!

I am not mainstream, and live partially off grid..I am very careful what I purchase, where and how, I have removed myself from mainstream society about 60%.

Imagine to go all the way to 98% then you'd be a proffesional recycler for sure (thats the term thats lighter on the ears :) )
Nice to meet you on here, im following to see your posts! i need to sleep now its late here

nice to meet you too on this platform, let's see where this leads ...I am following you as well

So in closure... In this Country, Dumpster Diving means actually going into the dumpster or through someones trash. Different countries, different terminologies.

Well yes, i do mean to go through trash and this post is about food! To dumpsterdive is exactly what the challenge is to do :) Maybe I should write list of protective equiptment to use, like "wear gloves"? to be honest ive not really come across any discusting trash cans, ok in spain yes, but obviously if they stink then its a no go from that point on! people still have common sense though right?!
