How Does Global Warming affect us?

Here is something you’ve heard before, global warming, we have all most likely, heard of it, but what exactly is it.? Global warming came to be, because of the greenhouse gases formation, known as the "greenhouse effect". This occurs when the heat gets trapped in our atmosphere, and that becomes excess heat, that in return do not get released into the universe; Thus, creating hotter climates here on the ground. As a result, our glaciers are melting, and sea levels are rising, it is a slow process, but we are quick to dismiss it as we go about our day to day lives. We may drift off to think that it Is not as bad as it seems. Many will argue that global warming is not a thing; However, regardless if it is or isn't, the world is still undergoing drastic changes, all that can possibly, be linked to global warming. This article is to urge you to think again, while you may not directly notice it, the weather and our planet is changing due to global warming.

How exactly is/will global warming affect us? For starters, "sea levels are expected to rise between 7 and 23 inches (18 and 59 centimeters) by the end of the century, and continued melting at the poles could add between 4 and 8 inches." (Effects of Global Warming) These numbers may seem low, but in the long run it adds up, and may of our coast lines could go underwater. Our second most critical blow is, Sandford’s University studies. That show a 5.5 percent decrease in wheat production. This will result in higher food cost, as it becomes harder to maintain/grow our crops. It also brings an increase in wild fires, due to droughts. This means that, it will also have a great impact on world hunger, and not in a good way. "All told, approximately 7 percent of planted fields in the United States are typically not harvested each year. This number can vary widely and can occasionally be upwards of 50 percent for a particular crop or operation. For example, 6-year averages show that acreage left unharvested is about 2 percent for potatoes, 8 percent for sweet corn, and 15 percent for wheat.24 At least 97,000 acres (6 percent) of fruit and vegetable row crops were not harvested." (Wasted) This is crazy already as it is, and global warming will only affect this in a negative way, as it becomes harder to plant crops, prices will rise. Imagine these statistics, on top of harder crop conditions.? It is a special recipe for disaster.

Everything that has been mentioned might be enough to scare some people, but don’t be alarmed. Although, the problems are major, several solutions to aid the cause is quite simple. In fact, the first one is so easy, that it might make some laugh. That is to simply speak up, voice your concerns and spread awareness. We can also stop wasting water, and eat what we buy instead of letting it mold. Also, something as simple as buying led lights, which will save you money in the long run. There are also simpler tasks that, we can take such as, pulling the plugs when we are away from home and driving a hybrid etc. Most importantly, we need to come together and do these simple tasks and want a better future.

Many might be surprised, but speaking up is one of the best things you could do, to solve any problem. It literally plays the biggest role, to solving the issue. Being silent is essentially you are agreeing with the problem, if not worse. You may also be shocked as to, how many people share your same views, the more people that are connect, the higher the success rate will be, to solving any dilemma. Not only that, but speaking up shows that you care, and that you are passionate about it. It could just convince people that, it indeed is a major issue that needs immediate attention. We also have to keep in mind, that not everyone is aware, thus, speaking up is the second step to solving an issue, first would be analyzing it. "It’s people being too passive and not speaking up that’s caused some of the darkest moments in the history of mankind." (5 Reasons why it’s so important to speak up) This could not be better said, because not speaking up, and knowing of the issue, is worse than being oblivious to it.

Many might ask themselves, how does changing a lightbulb/s will help global warming.? Well for starters, it would reduce your overall electric cost per year, while helping the environment. Here is a fun fact, "Replacing only one light bulb with an Energy Star-rated light bulb in every American home would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 9 billion pounds, or about the amount from 800,000 cars." That is simply amazing, also one blue star bulb such as: incandescent lightbulbs, can replace about twenty regular bulbs. That also saves you money on buying lightbulbs. (How Does Changing the Light Bulbs Help the Environment)

Think about how this can affect us down the road, or how it is already affecting us today. As a result, storms are getting stronger, the coast lines are getting smaller, due to ice melting. It is actually expected that; our sea level will rise insignificantly in years to come. Due to an increase in greenhouse gases, the heat is just being trapped and droughts are more prominent. Some areas might flood while others experience drought; However, with executing simple task such as, getting led bulbs and saving water, we can aid global warming. With taking action today little by little we might be able to help the cause, or at least delay it.
