RE: Steemit, Community, and the Power of Guilt

in #community7 years ago

That's a new take on human motivations. Guilt is a powerful thing. I've noticed Curie has bypassed my posts for almost three weeks now. I used to rely on them for my Steem. Now it's back to the reality of building an audience slowly! I don't know if what you're describing is all guilt or just reciprocity though. I think it depends on how you feel. But if someone is upvoting you consistently, you think, "I should pay them back in kind with some upvotes as well." Of course, familial connections don't hurt either! :)

I think it's a fine line between feeling guilty and feeling grateful. You're thankful for their comment/upvote, and want to pay them back in kind. Or, you're guilty because they commented/upvoted, but you didn't do the same for them.

I think you're right; it depends on how you feel, but it still doesn't change the fact that reciprocity is the result.

I've not had a curie in a good long time, so I know your pain there :)
