Today is a most perfect day for me to show you around my county.
My home town(Lawtey) is but a small space located in the top of Bradford County.
Strawberries are a big deal in our county. Back in the early years there were many farmers growing Strawberries. They would pick them, load them on there horse and wagon,
pull them to the train station, which at that time, the train would stop in Lawtey. They would ship them by train.
Old story goes that the train rolled in and a lady stepped off and said"lordty lordty lordty" As she seen all those strawberries
setting there waiting to be loaded on the train.
At that time this small town did not have a name. Then someone heard the lady and thought she had said "lawtey" and he
said "that's it ...That's it". We will name the town LAWTEY.
That story was told around this town. I heard so many of the older people tell it.
Now there is only a handful of Strawberry farmers but the tradition stayed.
Our County local paper. It's motto is The sweetest strawberries this side of heaven.
The bypass was marked to be finished by now but due to the rains it will take much longer.

Bradford county fair is a agriculture fair that include arts and crafts, 4‑H home division and horticulture, as well as business
exhibits with a carnival and rides on the midway.
In my younger years I was in 4H Cake decrating. I entered a cake shaped like a baseball cap. It won first place with a blue ribbon.
There is also a Pageant for Miss strawberry Queen.
We look forward to seeing you March 5 – 10, 2019 at the Bradford County Fair
You can Plan for next yearsStrawberry Festival 2019
Whoaaa.. that's amazing story @kandywriter😉 really love this one. So..what's the 4H? I wonder how lordty became lawtey and what makes lawtey's strawberry special and different with strawberry from other places?
Anyway... you really have so many interesting stories from your hometown😊i really hope to see the strawberry fields or green house and story behind the roadmarket too.
Thank you @kandywriter... there're many things to asks.. and I will make sure you'll answer everything😂
LOL, I've been to a Strawberry Festival before, but it is the one in Plant City FL. My in-laws live there. The funny thing is the roadside market looks just like the Parksdale Farms market in Plant City...
yes and we even get those plant city berries up here. Sometimes we do not grow enough or there not in season yet we have berries. Upon closer look there it is says plant city on the box. LOL.
