Goodbye 2025... Hello 2026....

in #community21 hours ago (edited)
There is about 6 more hours left of 2025 as I type this.
I don't have many complaints for 2025. Like life usually goes, there were good things and not so good things, but fortunately, nothing so bad that it would make me hate it and want to kick it's memory to the curb.
I accomplished a few things, had some fun, learned some stuff.....and avoided stuff I don't like the best I could. LOL... You know, just life. I mean, I LOVE life, but I mean, there's no perfection and I don't expect it.
A couple of weeks ago when I came home from somewhere, the afternoon sun was slanting through the small stand of trees between my house and the one next door. It was hitting the orange-brown leaves of the shorter tree in the middle, making it stand out so amazingly beautiful. I took this photo with my phone. I thought surprisingly it came out well for a phone photo. Quite a nice fall image.

I bought myself a purple calendar book for this year. It got here yesterday. I have never kept one formally. In November I was putting some things in a Google Calendar, but by December I was thinking that Google didn't need to know everything. They are such spies already. Still, I liked putting my appointments and happenings on a calendar for that small time and decided I would actually buy a book of my own and see how much I actually would use it. I think I will use it a lot, but I'm not totally sure. I already entered a thing or two last night. My older sister has had one for years, although she really does have much more to keep up with than I do, being she has grown children... in their 40s already! .... and several Grandchildren as well. She says she couldn't keep up with everything if she didn't keep one.
Do you keep one?
In the last couple of months I bought some clothes and loungers and the such and whatever I bought, if there was a purple one, that is what I got. I even bought two purple coats. All my coats were old and worn, so I bought a heavy one and a lighter one, two different styles, both purple. I like purple, but it has never been my very favorite color. I think I just needed to feel like I was getting something different. It seems I have kept with that notion.

I ate my last Christmas Cookie and Pecan Snowball this week. It's been a fun run, but for real, my body will be so much happier now that it won't be full of junk. LOL !!!! My tongue will be sad though till it gets back in the groove of my normal.
Bye-bye cookies... I love you! 💙

A photo of my Mother's front porch with her flag and the giant Japanese Maple tree. I don't think they were supposed to get that big here, but there has always been magic soil on her land. No complaints as there is always something beautiful growing there to enjoy.
God Bless America... right? We need some of that about now.

...and of course before I go, there had to be at least a tiny bit of collage. You would think you were in the wrong place if I didn't show you a hint of my wonky art. It's in my tiny sketch book I showed you not too long back. The background paper says "I wondered what the seagulls were trying to tell us". I think I wrote it one time when I was thinking back on how some seagulls were circling the parking lot of a Kmart store here a number of years back, when we are nowhere near the coast. It was so odd to see. Certainly it meant something, but I don't know what.

So here we go again!
I'm wishing you the Happiest of New Years. I hope 2026 holds all you need.... and more!
Love You! Mean it !

Sort:

I haven't kept a diary since I was a child and caught my father in my bedroom reading mine and having a good laugh. Naturally, it was all about him and my mother and how many times a week they were drunk:)

These days I remember very little and understand even less, so, tired of me borrowing her memory, a friend has gifted me a diary. No doubt I’ll now be publishing the minutiae of my daily doings here on Hive, to your endless fascination.

Oh! That can't have been good to have a diary full of drunken entries, but it sounded a little funny when I read it. Not something one would imagine being in a child's diary.

I also laughed about your friend giving you a diary so you can quit using her brain cells. The calendar book doesn't give so much room for keeping lots of notes per day, but it has random spaces here and there. I love writing, even though my handwriting is horrible and sometimes even I can't read parts of what I wrote. LOL !!!! Last year, maybe March or April, I found several day planners like this at Goodwill, it was late for buying one to use for real, but they were pretty, so I bought them anyway. I didn't use them for what they were made for and a few months back, I started writing in one as if it was a journal, not daily, just randomly. I don't do anything by date, just write the date and write across the whole page as if nothing else is printed there. It's worked well for that and it has been fun. I put a color marker sticking out the top of the page if I wrote an art idea I may want to come back too so I can find them at quick glance, although that is not the theme of my writings mostly.

I can't wait to be fascinated by all that you write!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Jacey! 💗

I didn't write much last year but I enjoyed reading your posts and following along with your art and life.

I started #The100DayProject again yesterday but, this time I am not adding the pressure of posting each day to it. Let's see how far I get this time around.

I use 3 calendars in total - one by my desk that lets me see quickly what things I have coming up; one in the loo that has both my stuff and John's so we can see what my effect each over but isn't our own stuff and one on my computer where I include appointments and deadlines etc.

For the past few years, the calendar in the loo has been a free one John got with his cycling magazine but this year he wasn't sent one so I'll be looking in the sales to pick one up.

The one by my desk is a little one that my Mum sends each year with views of Gozo where she lives and which we love.

Hi @gillianpearce !

I've been wondering where you were. :)

Ohhhhh... the 100 day project! Yeah, I am still not up for that as I know I'd never finish or it would end up feeling like a chore before it was over and I never want my art to feel like a chore. Maybe a 30 day sometime or something, that is about as long of a time as I "think" I might could finish. Since most of my posts already include my crazy little art, I'm not sure it would be noticable. LOL!

I have seen some folks doing the 100 day art challenge on youtube and sometimes they pick a theme and sometimes not. Some folks have made the posts weekly though where they maybe show one of the pieces start to finish and show short clips of them finishing the pieces from the other days of the week. I thought that was a good idea, a weekly show of the pieces made that week. It sounded much more doable.

3 calendars ! Wow! The one in the loo made me laugh, but for sure it would be convenient since everyone has to visit there multiple times a day. I would have never thought of that.

Happy New Year!

That is a very healthy looking Japanese maple! Happy new year lass!!

Magic soil I tell ya! ... and a woman with a very green thumb. :)

Happy New Year Boomie!

It's the green thumbs that do it!

I don't keep a calendar, or not in a physical or digital way. If there are deadlines, appointments to keep in min, I have an app for notes and make noted in that. You're right, the more Google knows, the worse it becomes for us.

But I love paper and notebooks, I can say I'm addicted to them, so this year I'm going to do something special and creative. There will be a post about it too, maybe I can motivate someone.

Happy new year to you and wish you a lot of creative days as I love to see your art.

Hi @erikah !

I am curious to see if I am consistent in keeping my book current. Fortunately, my memory has been pretty good and I never thought I needed such a thing. I don't have so many appointments, just the norm of dental visits and doctor visits and for sure THEY do not let you forget. You get an email or voicemail a week ahead and sometimes again a few days before. They are either wanting me to call and confirm or confirm by email that I am still coming to my appointment or the such. It would be hard to miss one for sure!

Sometimes there are family things, but there are not as many of those as there were when we were all younger, so not really something I would forget. I did take my sister's advice, that she did not know she was giving a month ago and bought one with a spiral spine that would open to a page and lay flat in case I want to keep it open to the page that shows the current date/month as I go.

I'm not really sure what all I will put in it. We'll see!

I can't wait to see what you are up too creatively and thanks for the compliments.

Happy New Year!

That photo of the sun hitting the orange leaves is impressive for a phone shot

Hi @anmolsingh01 !

I thought so too. Like many do, I take a LOT of photos with my phone. Most are decent, but average, which is normally ok, but once in a while, I accidentally get one that somehow seems nearly perfect. I thought this was one of them, although it's no telling what it would have looked like if it had been taken with a better camera.

The lit tree was so beautiful when I saw it, I simply HAD to try to get a photo.

Thanks for stopping in!
