Well !!
It's Sunday and we are having a winter storm here. They have been hounding us for days and days to be prepared for possible power outages and the such.
Stores have been raided and there is not a generator for sale for a thousand miles....LOL.... ok, I have no idea how far and wide that is, but there are none around here.
I got up to a light bit of snow this morning. As always, there are parts of it that are beautiful, if that is all we focus on. 😄 So of course I stepped out the back door in my gown, housecoat and bare feet to take a couple of quick clicks. Not like being 23 degrees deterred me doing that and the fact that I had to stand on ice to do it was a factor. It did cause it to be done rather quickly. It was simply too much trouble to bundle up and put shoes on, so I didn't. Still haven't !
It was only about an inch and a half'ish of snow sitting around at that time.
No longer than I was out there, the snow still melted around my feet. Kind of looks like Sasquatch was on my porch.
To be honest, I don't expect to lose power. I have been in this house almost 5 years and the few times the power has gone down, it has not been for very long. I realize there is always a first time, so if it goes out before I finish this post, you can point and laugh at me later!
Still...since they did so much HYPE about all the power outages that could happen. I tried to do what I could to make sure I was prepared. I had enough food here and the things I was low on were refrigerated items, but I was not about to replenish that in case the power actually did go off for an extended amount of time at any point. No sense in losing more than what is already in there....right?
Also this morning I put a lot of water in the fridge for drinking if needed as I am on a well and if no power.... no water. I know it would not stay cold, but I wasn't going to draw it and then leave it on the kitchen counter... right ? I also ran my bath tub full of water after my shower so if the unthinkable happened, I could still FLUSH !!! LOL.... very important !
This is a pano that my camera program made on my phone and asked me if I wanted. I kept it (for now) but it seemed funny to me. There IS a corner between the two photos it is made from, but each side does not bow in. Interesting paste together I thought.
A couple of years ago my Uncle, who owns the house I rent told me he had a generator for this house if ever needed. He said it would not run the heat or the well, but it would keep my fridge, freezer and a space heater going. Friday though, he called me around lunch time to say that he had tried all morning to get it up and running. It would come on, but would not put out any power. He even tried to buy one, but there was not one to be had. I was not worried about me or my things as I have enough clothes and blankets & etc to keep warm, but his water pipes would really be the concern if there was an extended outage and that little generator was probably not going to help with that.
So while I was going from the back door to the front door taking different photos, I attempted to be creative and took this shot out the front blinds where some of my glass doodads are hanging. I keep forgetting that although it looks clearer to my eyes, that my camera always picks up the screen ! ha ha... ah well.
Coming through, I also took a photo of my bubble light in the kitchen. I'm not putting it up with the Christmas stuff. I love it and I'm leaving it out so I can enjoy it every day. I even bought extra bulbs in case it burns out.
That's right, it has nothing to do with the snow and ice.
This also has nothing to do with the snow storm. I have meant to work on getting photos of this since before Christmas against a solid background, but that never happened. I bought it on Etsy where a woman makes mobiles out of fun kitchen stuff. I love the coppery colored things and it goes well in my kitchen (where it is not hanging in this photo), but I thought it was so neat and happy. She had taken a vintage 1950s / 1960s copper colored jello mold for the top and copper colored cookie cutters and hooked them together with copper colored chain. She had also hung copper colored jingle bells in the center of each cookie cutter. Not only that, she has a small copper colored wind chime attached in the center, which means it would also play happily if hung outside.
I thought I'd include it here, since it seems I did not do it justice with a better photo session. At least with the busy background, the light from the front window made it show up fairly well.
I sipped on my favorite Chocolate Mocha Truffle coffee all morning and did not get hungry till mid afternoon. I decided to cook the bacon I had to make sure if the worst happened, it would not be one of the casualties.....LOL.... any excuse to cook bacon... am I right? It was very yummy with some warm scrambled eggs. I am full and content right now. I knew you would want to see, so I took this photo for you.
Since I took the above snowy photos this morning, it stopped snowing and started sleeting and has been sleeting for hours on end now. If you compare to my first photos, you can see that it is at least twice as deep and this second layer is all ice ! The ice part may be thicker than the first snow layer.
I know I've wound on and on now, especially for having nothing amazing to say. I've been trying to do a blog for several days, but nothing would step forward. Now it has been a week since my last post ! It does not seem like that long to me, but the evidence says it has been. Once I started getting photos and downloading, looking to make a post, one sister emailed and we have been having fun going back and forth and another sister text and I needed updates on her and her family who have covid and of course I had to go back and forth with some kindred spirits who love vintage aluminum trees that have a page on FB (you know who I mean) ha ha Of course too, there has been a fair amount of going to the windows and looking out.
It has literally taken over half a day to get here and get this far with it.
Such a gray photo out my front door. The patches of grass still showing are where some stumps were pulled up in the late fall and my neighbor had extra grass seed that he donated. It must be winter grass of some kind, because when the rest of the old grass turned brown, all these patches stayed green and kept growing !
SO !!! There it is, I finally did it !
Hope you are all doing well and that your hearts are happy.
Love you !
Jacey
I hope you didn't loose power. I have a well, too and understand how challenging it can become without electricity!
I didn't lose power thankfully, in fact I don't think anyone around here did. Certainly not like "they" thought it would be. They say more is coming maybe tomorrow night or Friday. Because there was such a thick layer of sleet, it has not disappeared as fast as if it had just been soft snow and everything is still pretty white.
What can we expect though? It's winter for goodness sakes ! 😄
You're prepared for the worst case scenario. Hopefully it won't come to that. I never even thought about the bathtub full of water for the toilet. I'll need to remember this haha
I like the kitchen mobile. Looks like a copper bundt pan with the cookie cutters and wind chimes all built into it. I see what might be a snowman or maybe a fat gingerbread man.
Great to hear you're doing well considering the weather and scenario. You can never have enough blankets in my experiences, take care 🙂
I prepared for worst case and thankfully didn't need any of it ! They are calling of possibilities of more in a few days, so we'll see !
The folks on city water don't have to worry about loss of water in a power outage, but on the well, the pump is electric and... no power, no water ! Not that you'd want to bath in the ice cold water, but you could last awhile if you were really snowed in if you have water to drink.
Yes ... there were different cookie cutters hanging, gingerbread man, star, Christmas tree shaped and etc. I think it's adorable !
In your blanket assortment, you need a thick acrylic one too. Of course we all want cotton, but acrylic doesn't breath so holds all your heat in.
This really is weird weather! I must admit we did not get one flake of snow nor any ice! Seems like our weathers have swapped. Well all I can say is welcome to my world...the cold, the snow, the ice which is worse, and the grey skies! But like everyone is so quick to say....isnt it so pretty!?!
It is not unusual for us to get a little snow or ice 3 or 4 times a winter, but most times it is not a significant amount and it doesn't hang around very long. It is sunny with blue skies today ! ... however "THEY" say we may get another go at it this coming Friday or Saturday. Blah !
Yes, @old-guy-photos - those are my exact words and it is pretty. I speak the truth. Is it dangerous? It can be. Is it annoying? It can be. It is too much sometimes? It can be... but, you cannot deny it, it is still pretty.

Cold and snowy! This is what we crave here! Not this endless cold and wet!
Oh no ! No craving cold and snowy here.
Winter and me, we don't like each other very much. I still admit she's pretty when she wears her white dress, but those looks are deceiving. Underneath she's a wicked frosty witch !

Thank you SO much !
You sent it up to my way! Ha@ I wrote about it (sort of) too. I snowed for hours and then sleet came down, although, the weatherman said rain and warmer temps.
Of course, that didn't happen and it melted and refroze. It is slick as snot out there. It is almost 1:30 and I am listening to the dripping. It should be a nice sheet of ice.
I love your kitchen doodad thingie. Also! Did I tell you I got a bubbling night light? I put it in the main level bathroom and I have had it for years. It is so cool! I did put it away with the Christmas stuff like I always do. I don't know why because I keep the painted nutcrackers out and have them all over the house. I loved the feet! LOL At least there were two and not one like I had. :))
Your house is so cute and happy. It makes me smile just looking at it. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead! Enjoy your commute! :)
I tried to send it away sooner, but it was not cooperating. I thought it was supposed to stop around 4 or 5 pm yesterday and right before dark it looked like it had, but much later, when I was locking up, I looked out the back door one more time and found that it had snowed again after dark at least an inch or more while I wasn't looking ! Color me surprised !
No melting here between snow and ice.
I have other bubble lights, like the snowman holding one I have shown before. Sometimes I had put one in a plastic window candle and just sat it wherever. I had seen these nightlights in different versions many times and my Mother even tried to give me hers when I told someone I loved them, but I didn't take it. This year though, I was whim buying not long before Christmas and I bought a box of 3. I almost gave one away, but Amazon delivered to a different porch the day I put out a gift for the deliver person, so I still have it ! After I decided to keep it out all year, I bought a box of replacement bulbs from the same company, just in case. :)
I always leave something or two out all year. I choose differently each year. There is no rhyme or reason much to what I choose. I liked having this one in the kitchen, plugged in above the counter, so I decided it was staying.
I would have just stuck one foot out on the ice if I could have taken a decent photo around the storm door, but no, it had to be a two footer. ha ha
Chocolate Mocha Truffle coffee and eggs and bacon sounds good!
Stay warm, @jacey.boldart!
It was !
I am about to go put on a pot of Amaretto coffee now to start this day. Not hungry yet, so now sure what today's good eats will be.
15 degrees this morning and it snowed again last night. Fun, Fun, Winter Fun ! 😏
I want Amaretto in front of the fireplace... nice thought!
I don't have a fireplace!!!
I don't have a fireplace either, but I can stream a burning fireplace on my big TV, so I guess that will have to do. LOL
I am still sipping coffee. I am thinking a grilled cheese needs to appear around here before way too long. I'm working on a post.
Hahaha!!!
On Christmas Day I have my burning fireplace on TV!!!
