[ANN] Introducing Dustsweeper. A new service to turn Dust into Profit.

in #community7 years ago

dustsweeper

In the quest to find ways to "give-back" to the community, @davemccoy and @danielsaori happily presents our latest project. A project supported by the STEEM Witness, @danielsaori.

We have decided to tackle a problem that disproportionately affects newbies and minnows alike. It might seem small, and it is. In fact, it is so small we refer to it as dust. But just because its small, doesn't mean it's not meaningful. It adds up economically, but even more important it makes users with lesser vote values feel like their votes don't matter. This is especially true on comments.

Today we are pleased to present you with a membership service that will take care of dust, @dustsweeper. By joining @dustsweeper you will have your dust taken care of automatically. It's a friendly, simple to use bot that looks out for the newbies and minnows, and makes sure that you get paid from the votes that have been cast for you, no matter how small.

The way it works:

If you have an upvote that is less than $0.0249, then your value will show either $0.00, $0.01, or $0.02. @dustsweeper will see those values on day 6 of your post/comment and upvote you $0.028 automatically so that you will get paid on the balance of those upvotes you already have.

What does it cost:

There is no membership fee whatsoever, but there is a charge of $0.014 SBD for every dust vote we cast. That is half of the value of the upvote of $0.028. The way we keep track of it is that you send about 1 SBD/STEEM or more, we double the amount and keep the balance on hand. Every time we upvote your dust we will just take it from that balance. For example, you will get 71 dust votes before your 1 SBD runs out. When you get low on your balance, you will be notified so that you can top-up your @dustsweeper balance and be sure you don't miss any votes.

Dustsweeper is a community bot run by witness @danielsaori

This is a joint project by @davemccoy and @danielsaori and it's supported and operated by witness @danielsaori. The goal behind this service is to help the newbies and minnows get paid on the votes they already have, not to make a profit. The fees we charge should equal the cost to run the service and lease the SP to make those votes. If the bot makes a profit, then the surplus will be used do other things to help the community.

Inaugural Sponsors/Delegators

If anyone would like to contribute to the @dustsweeper program, you can send funds directly and become a community support sponsor or you can also delegate any amount of SP you would like to the project. To get this program started @danielsaori will be delegating 1000 SP and @davemccoy will be delegating 200 SP.

Abuse Precautions Taken

First, we would hope that people wouldn't scheme such a helpful program to help people get paid for upvotes that fall into the category of dust. But since we are aware that there are sometimes people prone to coming up with such schemes, we will be on the lookout for it and use tools we have worked on to minimize abuse of the system. Naturally, this will be a work in process as with every day that goes by we will have more data to sift through and put the proper systems in place to progressively improve the program.

Purpose of @danielsaori witness

As a new witness @danielsaori has dedicated his witness to improve the community at large. Specifically to help the newbies and minnows to grow strong and vibrant so that the platform can develop in a healthy manner. The @dustsweeper program is a great initiative that fits that vision. It will help the people that participate, but may not be connected to the large players in the system. It will give them a way to feel like their voices can be heard even if the upvotes they receive are less than a penny. We welcome any of the other witnesses and larger Steemians to join us in this project, as since it is a community account and intended to help everyone feel that their vote really does count!

When you get dust, who are you gonna call?

Quickstart:
  • Just transfer 1 STEEM/SBD to @dustsweeper and you are set.

Please consider voting @danielsaori as a Witness.

Not sure if you have a graphic or not but was playing around with some ideas!!! @davemccoy

Wow, that's really cool. Maybe Dave has already asked you, but you should really make a post about this. Please do that and I will do my best to promote it.

I will change this logo shortly as it is a much better fit than our current simple logo.

Thank you! I will definitely do that! Glad you both liked it! I've also enhanced it a bit trying out a few looks so will place them in the post as well. As i told Dave its yours to use however you would like.

awesome again @charisma777 :) ... I love it!

That graphic looks nice! What a shiller :)

Lol thanks! We should shill for one another!!! Glad you like it!!

I think you got charimsa ;)

Thanks i guess that's why my mother gave me that name!!!

Then she must have charisma too :)

this is really cool, makes me want to get dust sweeper now :)

This is awesome!!!

thank you very much @mysearchisover! We're very glad you like it :)

It does look like it is working. :)
https://steemd.com/@dustsweeper

I'm glad to see you are following it, its really cool to see it in action!

Do you guys have enough steem power? It looks like the vote power is draining?

It is hard to guage exactly what the demand will be... so figuring out the demand side of this is the biggest issue... @danielsaori delegated another 1000 SP and we leased our first batch of 500 from Minnow Booster a couple of hours ago... I know we will be fine in the long run, but in the short run if demand keeps picking up we may need some short term relief :P...

Its a good problem to have (lots of interest), and we will find a way somehow to meet demand!

How am I just now getting this?? This is so awesome for all the new guys and gals here. Thanks for everything you all are doing. Yous continue to be an inspiration to me. I'm going to do post on this so all my newbie friends will know! Thanks @danielsaori and @davemccoy! Please let me know if you get my VP delegation on your end. I wish I could do more.

DEATH TO THE DUST VOTE!!

Awesome John!
I will be keeping my eyes open for your post.

This sounds like a great initiative and I really hope it works as envisioned!

Good luck!

Edit: Delegated 200 SP to help kick things off (and joined in with a send to the account :) )

Thanks a lot, Asher. Awesome you decided to delegate 200 SP, great to have your support.

We are currently up to 78 users which is an amazing start. :)

No worries, the @dustsweeper has already paid me a few visits - great initiative!

Amazing initiative, guys. You have my full support.

I just saw the delegation... I was right... I'm going to lock down that name for you one day...

@simplyamazing :)

Too many expectation, then, @davemccoy. Lol.
I’m glad you guys gave a a good bot to delegate to :0)

lol... we'll consider it later after you are recovered ;)

Thank you again @simplymike! I had a hunch you would like anything that helps our the newbies and minnows! :)

Thank you Mike for your support and for your awesome delegation.

Dank je wel!

Ha, ha, ha. You'd said I'd like yours and @danielsaori's new project @davemccoy, but you were wrong, I LOVE it.

1 SBD transferred. I didn't put anything in the memo. Is that right?

Actually I spoke to soon. I seem to be unable to transfer the SBD. I keep getting transaction errors. 😢

I'm so glad to hear you love it Gillian! :) And, yes that is perfect... you should get a memo back... telling you that you have $2 in upvote balance... If you don't let me know and I will track it down!

Thanks Gillian! Great you loved it. :)
Yes, your transfer didn't work. Maybe due to the recent steemit issues it didn't complete. Please try it again.

I'm finding impossible at the moment to make the transfer @danielsaori. I just keep getting errors but hopefully it's because of the recent steemit issues and it will settle down.

I'm not able to log into Busy at all. Grrrrrr!

It seems to have been stable for some time now and other transfers have worked. Just double check that you are putting in the active key for the transfer.

I'm pretty sure it's the private active key. But I can't double check because I can't get in and I can't find my master password either. I've never had a problem before.

I need to do some stuff and before getting ready for bed so I'll have to leave it for now and try again tomorrow!

The system was giving me the 504 gateway timeout message earlier today. I think one of the servers was/is having issues. It should be fixed tomorrow.

Great initiative. At the start it was really sad to lose those 0.02s and 0.01s. IMHO 1 SBD/STEEM is bit higher considering you are targeting newbie users. But I am sure you have done your homeworks.

They can actually send in any amount they want... The reason for the 1 sbd is so that they don't have to send it per transaction and over and over... We wanted to make it as seemless as possible, so 1 sbd covers 71 dust votes... but if they only have $0.25 sbd they could send that too.

When I get some coin, I’ll be sending it your way.

That's the same concern I had too, @reazuliqbal... that it would be too high for newbs. Thanks for bringing that up.

And Thank you for clarifying that $1.00 SBD wasn't a minimum amount to use @dustsweeper, @davemccoy.

I thought @davemmcoy was just going to run around for the rest of time upping people's dust votes. You know, the personal touch! :) Okay, automating is probably better. I mean why not have one more bot?

So, question. I believe grumpycat is on their way out, but they have madpuppy around who I believe in part is at least upholding the grumpy cat compliance on bidbots. I know this isnt' a bid bot, but I'd really hate for this bot to run afoul of either because they didn't want to differentiate. I think the problem has always been when the vote occurs, not who or what makes the vote.

And since the grumpycat compliance is for no later than 3.5 days, and the stated dustsweeper voting timing is on the sixth day, it would seem like there could be an issue. I'm not an expert. I'm just voicing a concern.

Anyway. I didn't see anyone else bring this up, and so I just wanted to throw it out there for what it's ultimately worth. Good luck with this new initiative. :)

Poor Dave he would be run ragged if he needs to do that.

Good catch on the Grumpy cat though

Thank you. I've been learning, as you have, that it doesn't really matter when it comes to these kinds of things to people. I wonder if they lead such strict and unyielding moral lives in the real world as they do here? I guess it's one thing to do things the way you do because you believe them, and there's certainly room to try to influence people to your side, but to go out of your way to hunt down 'offenders' day in and day out because they don't conform to your own sometimes rather arbitrary and narrowed outlook on things? I don't know. Doesn't sit very well. Especially when among those folks are the worst offenders of the so called violation.

Well said Glen! I always think that it must be very difficult living inside that kind of person.

Oh, it probably is, and most of us are glad we're not and will probably try somehow to feel sorry for them or justify their actions. And while I believe a person can change, and I also believe in turning the other cheek, I also believe that we are responsible and accountable for own actions and outside of some kind of mental heath issue, we can control our behavior. So, tortured soul or not, there are still choices being made. There's benefit of the doubt, and then there's blind faith, and I don't think the latter is required.

Again, I agree.

we can control our behavior.

even though a large percentage of the population has a terrible case of excusitis :)

(yes, I know, but it should be a word:)

Don't look now, but apparently excusitis was submitted to Collins Online English Dictionary back in 2012:

A mediocre person who is suffering from the sickness of a mental disease of MAKING EXCUSES every time that aren't made by the successful person.

As of today, it's approval is still under investigation. I guess it was previously used in a book called The Magic of Thinking Big, a self-help, motivational book by David Schwartz.

There, once again you know more about something than you ever wanted or needed to know. :)

Yeah Grumpy Cat is just a bully who found a platform that by having enough stake he/she/it can push around people and place them hostage to his narrow ideals and he/she/it has the fall to comment and say rubbing it in with a higher uovote on the shitty comment.

I think they have to be more than just a bully. They have to be someone fairly familiar with the platform. It was also a very specific request. No last minute voting for bots, in fact 3.5 days no more. Comply or else. So, while obviously a bully, the person needed to not only know the ends and outs of voting, but also needed to know the fastest way to get a surrogate count up and running (the one that would upvote its own comments numerous times), and then, of course, they had to have all the coin in order to buy in. If I remember right, the g-cat account was set up in November of last year. So, that wasn't a whole lot of time to suddenly learn the ropes, and I don't think just any investor shows up with a bunch of money, finds something they don't like, throws their weight around and then begins to power down without really having any other concerns on the platform.

said perfectly Glen! if my vp wasn't at 66% you would get a full upvote for that one... Honestly I couldn't agree more!

Well, then, you're off the hook. :)

I didn't ever expect a place that virtually has no rules to have people that try to enforce their own by force. I was hoping for reasoned arguments. And while some of that goes on, there's a lot of might makes right. And some people think that's perfectly fine in a place with no rules. Well, outside of a real stake in STEEM to protect, I don't know that any of the folks would be very happy if what happens here were happening in their country, or state. And some people actually do have that happening, and then they end up here and see it all over again. Even the escape doesn't really constitute an escape.

There are oases thankfully, and you've been helping to create and maintain some of them, but waters are infested will all kinds, and they seem to like to exercise whatever bit of power they think they have.

lol Mav! Are you still up or did you go to sleep and already up again? And thanks to Daniel I am not running myself ragged!

Hahaha I was able to get some sleep after explaining and sharing teh wonderful project that you have.

Good thing because we need you commenting and inspiring minnows and Redfishes instead of running after dust bunnies hahahha

Good to hear that Mav! I was starting to worry :P

lol... that is very funny Glenn! I tried for a couple days but thankfully @danielsaori has the skills needed to automate the process. :)

As far as it being a problem, I would hope it wouldn't be... but we already have one warm and welcoming individual that has decided that he is going to crusade against it... See bottom of comments if you want to see his objections. So it will be what it is, I hope sincerely that people in the community support it and it is a valuable service. But if there are enough madpuppies or others that want to "take it down", then I guess we will have to find out.

I think it is awesome that you like it, and as the reigning King of Comments I'm happy to have your voice of support for the effort! :)

I'm not sure if I was rubberstamping it per se, as much as I was acknowledging that at least you'll be able to focus some energies elsewhere. :) I'm betting you had quite a bit of fun doing it.

You're right, though, we will see whether or the community let's this initiative prevail or not. Since I haven't gotten an answer to where all the dust goes when it's not rewarded, be it burned, null or go back to Steemit, it would be nice to keep it in play. I'm just not sure how this vote bot plays into the whole curation scheme of things, especially on comments that are mainly rewarded for participation rather than content. I do hope, though, that it does what you believe it will do.

Since I haven't gotten an answer to where all the dust goes when it's not rewarded, be it burned, null or go back to Steemit

On that initial post by @sircork, he clarified in the comment section that the unpaid votes went in to the pool, @glenalbrethsen.

Which again upped my mini rant count the evening I read through and responded to post and comments. ;)

lol, which post did I say that on? It's true. I'm 99% sure anyway... but now I don't remember when and where I talked about it. :D

OMGosh!!!

@SirCork, it seems I have you on my mind!!! My HUMBLEST apologies!!!

I should have said @TimCliff's post.

Please forgive? ;)

PS Yes, I've commented on that rule a few enough places that I meant to gather up all of the comments and put in one post.

Still haven't done it yet though. ;)

hah, no need to forgive, I appreciate being thought of! :D

I admit I didn't realize that there was so much more to the post in the comments, but I found where timcliff said it goes back to the rewards pool and I read your two longer replies.

I can't believe it's almost been a month since that post came out! It seemed like a couple of weeks ago.

The rewards pool. Well, interesting. The one thing I guess we can take from this is, as long as all dust votes on a post or comment get to the 2-2.5-3.0 threshold (whatever it truly is, since it seems to be a moving target), the payout to the author occurs. And what this initiative here would hope to do is make all posts and comments with upvotes below the threshold get above it.

I certainly prefer if someone votes on something that their small rewards be counted to the author rather than going back to the rewards pool. I just wish it didn't require someone else coming by and creating a means to make it happen that will basically be supplementation through another amount coming from the rewards pool. I don't know. Better just to watch things as they unfold. As I replied to Dave, in the grand scheme of things, this is not a platform destroyer, and as such, that makes it better than a lot else going on. :)

I can't believe it's almost been a month since that post came out! It seemed like a couple of weeks ago.

I KNOW!!!

It seems a short time, but to tell you the truth, I realize it's about a month simply because my upset has cooled down so much. It affected me for about a week and a half at least.

I certainly prefer if someone votes on something that their small rewards be counted to the author rather than going back to the rewards pool.

Absolutely. We're not upvoting for the value to go to anything or anyone or anywhere else than the author we upvote.

I'm truly hoping our wonderful Witnesses will all vote the silly rounding down rule out of existence, @glenalbrethsen. ;)

Right, @SirCork, @danielsaori, @TimCliff, et al? ;)

That would be interesting to see if they could actually vote it down. I mean, I understand they can make recommendations, but anyway, might be parsing words. What I understand about the dust vote is, if all the dust votes were calculated, it would be an unnecessary computational load on the blockchain. I don't know what that means, as in to what degree. I don't know what's favorable, or what's not. I don't even know if it's an issue.

However, if it is, it's only going to become a bigger issue if the masses do ever show up here. We've got more small fish than ever before, and the amounts will only grow from here if/when HF 20 drops.

So, it would be cool to know just what can be done about the dust vote and whether it will be done. :)

Too late, I already inked the rubber stamp... :P

I understand your point... You don't want to have a full opinion until you have time to see how it works, and what the other points of view are on the subject... That is fair... You are a thinker that I think I have valued your opinion every time, so I hope you will put the thinking cap on and the observation goggles and see how this plays over the next few days and weeks!

If there's anyone here who has earned a rubberstamp, it would be you. :)

As you say, I'm hesitant to pronounce anything one way or another until I see it in action. I have done it a time or two, but only because they rang true. Thankfully, they're still holding true as far as I know.

In the grand scheme of things, though, since we love to talk in degrees here, the relative harm that can be done is small, and the relative good it can do reward-wise to participating individuals, also small, with the boost to morale of those involved still to be determined. :)

I have been meaning to get to this for more than a day... I wanted to say, thank you for that very kind thing you said... And I do agree with you about the grand scheme of things, as I said there is no much I ever disagree with you about! Always reasonable and have your feet on the ground... And haven't had a chance to get to Asher's post, but I did see where you lost the crown... I think you will get it right back, but I do think you have been stellar for so long you should be very proud! I will pay you compliments over there, I think I can make it there in a few min :P

It's okay. It's now 22 hours since you wrote this message and I'm only barely catching up to it. And aside from making my main comment and then responding to replies, I haven't done a whole lot over there, still. And then I have my own feed to catch up with. So, there's always a lot to do and not seemingly enough time to do it in.

I'm not sure how someone even makes 1300-plus comments in a week, but apparently it's possible. So me dropping out of first wasn't as secure as ya'll were trying to make it seem. :) I feel like I've been accomplishing some good things, but of course I'd rather be at the top. I'm working to get back there, and so we'll see what happens. I'm comforted in the fact that even with the amount of comments made, my CL was quite a bit higher, which means if I can get it up again into the 200,000s, I can get back on top, barring another 400 or more comments, or whatever the equivalent would be.

Luckily for Dave we got the bot running so he doesn't kill himself running it manually. :)

I see the point about grumpycat. Hopefully it won't be an issue. This is after all not a bid bot and it has a completely different focus. Also, the per post/comment upvote value is so small.
There could still be some abuse and we are considering different possibilities to fight that atm.

Thanks for your comment Glen!

I am really amazed at the incentive you @danielsaori and @davemccoy are taking to provide for the community , and as part of the steemian nation I thank u 😊

The project is really great in a sense that it is aimed at new users , and encourages them to feel welcomed to steemit and create a place for them to belong.
The battle of upvoting is very real , and making their votes count is very helpful , further taking measures to prevent abuse really assures that you know what u are doing
However maybe the fees is too high as it is aimed to new steemians?

You can deposit less @moonprincess... The way it works is based on the amount you have on deposit... So if you have enough on deposit, then you will get the upvote... So if a smaller account only has say 1/2 or 1/4 of the 1 sbd, that is ok... they can send it in and it will get counted and the upvotes will occur...

The reason we set it for 1 sbd in the explanation is so that people don't have to think about it all the time and it will make it less cumbersome. For 1 sbd you get 71 dust votes of $0.028 and then you will be prompted to reload. But if there is a smaller account, then it is ok to send in less.

I'm glad you like it and understand the purpose, that is what we wanted to do is help the community (especially the newbies and minnows) :)

Glad to see supporters already! Of course will send in my 1 SBD to make the upvotes given to me by newbies count. Some are aware about the 0.02 dust threshold but still want to upvote as a gesture of their appreciation. This wonderful bot will now give value to their upvotes. Thanks you two!

I just tested it on one of your comments. I make all of my upvotes count! lol I'm really glad that Tim happened to mention the threshold problem.

Hey @mysearchisover. Are you testing to see if the dustsweeper will kick in?

My friend PD tries to make her upvotes count too. It's unfortunate that the price of Steem dropped in value so the 0.02 upvote she gave to me a few days back lost value. I tell her not to upvote my comments, but she's just a sweetie.

Yes.
I make all of my upvotes count but it is frustrating not being able to upvote everyone I want. I don't know why people like you don't upvote themselves more. Oh well I guess I will just take the free money and eventually it is looking like I will be able to have upvotes that will count solo. Technically my upvotes would count if I was at 100% power but like that will ever happen. lol
I am still "scared" though. I'll be watching the upvote I did on one of your older comments.
I wasted at least 1,000 upvotes I think before I learned about the threshold thanks to Tim's post.

By people like me, you mean sweet and charming? Oh maybe just the ones with enough SP to give ourselves a 0.02 upvote value but choose not to self-vote? 😉

I don’t upvote myself because I’m a prissy girl. My mentality may change once my upvotes are worth more, because gosh darn it, I want to see my posts in the spotlight on Trending! A lot of us don’t self vote for many reasons. It’s a personal decision with no right or wrong answers.

We’ve all wasted upvotes before learning of the dust threshold. I had a hard time getting my VP out of the 60-70% range, and then to find out that some of those 0.02 upvotes I gave still did not pay out! In essence, when Steem price plunges, your upvote worth of 0.02 doesn’t mean 0.02. By post payout, that 0.02 could now be 0.017. That’s why I support the dustsweeper. I hate to see a good-hearted gesture go to waste.

I have to upvote my stellar comments :) lol Every 5,504 of them. ;) I usually even promote my awesome comments. Hopefully it will really pay off for myself and this currently "struggling" blockchain in the end.

I have no problem people promoting themselves. I do suggest you be mindful of whose post you decide to upvote yourself to the top. I know @davemccoy doesn’t mind because he’s simply a good guy.

For some others, they do like to select for themselves which comments make it to the top and it’s good to be considerate of others, especially on their posts. Some higher reps may not like the “self-votes” and may choose to flag you. As I said, it’s a personal decision but be mindful too.

Most of us on this page are part of Asher’s league of engagement and not to hoot our own horns, but we all have stellar comments. A lot of us choose not to promote ourselves and if we do, we do it respectfully with someone who doesn’t mind. 🙂

I just noticed the same regarding the drop. I had given everyone on one of my posts 0.03 and see that they dropped to 0.02. But, thankfully, I am noticing @dustsweeper all over the place, cleaning up my mess :)

That's awesome! It's vote power is going down though. It's now at 83%.

Awesome @beeyou :)... I figured you'd like to see the votes counted finally... It has been a topic of debate lately and hopefully this will help make people realize that their votes do count :)

A lot of my supporters are newbies so I do appreciate having the capability (via dustsweeper) to place value on their upvote. Now I don't have to continuously tell them to please not upvote my comments! :)

you will still find a way to give it back to them... face it @beeyou, you're a giver :)

I’m a realist too.

Super BeeYOU! You were "customer" nr 4.
For anyone that dislikes cleaning, Dustsweeper would be a dream, and we hope it will do a wonderful job around here as well.

I was going to ask if you can build a dustsweeper for the real world, but we already have those robotic ones. :)

Thanks for working with Dave on this one. It's a great way to give value to the voices of newbies/minnows. I want all my supporters to feel their upvotes are valuable to me, because they are.

Your "robotic" comment reminded me of a story. My friend had one of those roomba thingies, but she also had a big chocolate lab with a delicate intestinal track. Yep! Can you see where this is going yet? Just before leaving for work one day, she put her automatic sweeper in motion and came home to dog diarrhea "swept" all over the house!! I can't make this sh*t up haha Pun intended @beeyou :)

What a brilliant and thoughtful service! This is the beauty of bots; it's unfortunate that they all can't be this selfless!! :)

Whenever steemit starts working properly, I'm sending 1 sbd for me and another transaction to go towards @dustsweeper's account! Thanks to both of you for this! :)

Awesome @lynncoyle1 ... I'm glad you like it Lynn and I though you might considering you are the Queen of comments :P... Mine finally seems like its working again, so hopefully we have a good full weekend ahead! :) ...

and @danielsaori was the guy who deserves all the credit... He is the one who took the concept and put it into action!

I'm finally up and running too. I used the downtime to write a post about @dustsweeper for you guys! Such a cool idea that I want to spread the word :)

Your humility is touching Dave! I'm sure @danielsaori will say the same about you :)

awesome Lynn, you are fantastic!!!

Thanks! So are you :)

Such a great idea! Thank you two for putting it together. I sent my first 1 SBD and am excited to see it in action.

Thank you Blondie! I was super excited about it too! :)

I hope it goes really well! So far so good!

Thank you for the support! And congrats on being the 5th customer. ;)

Thank you! I saw I got a few votes today. It was exciting. Also made me glad that those peoples' votes didn't go to waste.

me too.. probably what excites me the most is knowing people will value their vote

sounds good to me

I thought you might like this DDC :)

Awesome initiative you guys!

@spiritualmax thanks for getting this under my radar :>)

I am eager to start sweeping some dust and would also love to delegate some SP to the good cause to help out others with their daily household chores.

Feel free to reach out to me on discord

Have a great day!

and thanks for passing it on

You're welcome buddy
I can't wait for it's testrun on the vote you just gave on my comment ;>)

Did it work? Wait so when I upvote comments for .01 it isn’t reaching them?

I don't think it does reach them.

I believe it should start when a post reaches it's payout date (and has received votes under 3 cents).

Will keep you updated :>)

Awesome, I'm glad you like it @vincentnijman! And thank you too @spiritualmax, you are awesome for helping to get the word out!!!

I will try to get you on discord @vincentnijman, I assume it will be the same name there? And btw my name in discord is davemccoy#2479 ... I hope to connect soon!

I like it already and I'm not even using it yet

I was listening to this song - for some 90s nostalgia - just seconds before I received your comment:

"Are you the real mccoy?" ;>)

Yeah, you can find me on discord under that/ my name. Talk to you soon!

lol... yes I am the one and only "real mccoy" :P I tried getting you but I need those last 4 numbers after your name... I guess I'm not on the same servers as you so it won't let me see you without that number... Or if its secret, you can contact me ;) davemccoy#2479

VincentNijman#5870 Not sure why but I don't seem to be able to add you either
Talk to you later today. Time to wake up ;>)

we aren't on the same servers, so we have to "add as friends"... I sent you a friend invite... I'll be back on tonight

And @danielsaori wanted to talk to you as well if you want to add him too danielsaori#1610

I see. 'Add as friends'. Just learnt something new here.

I invited Daniel and will chat with you guys soon.
It might be tomorrow though as I have a hunch that your tonight is after midnight for me.

Bye for now!

I love that song. I think it was a number one hit in the USA in the 90´s .

Really! Not sure how good it did in The Netherlands but it surely was in the Top 40

It's so wrong and good all at the same time! I love it too! Gives me an instant energy boost :>)

In fact, I'm listening to it right now. I was 11 or 12 when it came out. It was just around the time that I got into listening to music on the radio/ my radio cassette player.

Awesomeness!

The good old times of the casstes players. Sometimes I miss my old walkman ...

I understand that feeling. Even though I never had a walkman, nor a gameboy...

I'm among the 1 % of people who grew up in the Western world in the 80s/ early 90s without these machines, haha

Instead of missing it, (I)just enjoy memories from the 'good' old days ;>)

@dustsweeper can we donate for others?? If not will that be a possibility in the future?

That is a great question @charisma777... Let's ping @danielsaori and see if he can handle that somehow... Daniel?

Awesome! Thanks! I knew you were going to help do great things on steemit! This is Just one of them! I had read @beeyou's post on dust and glad thou all came up with this idea!!

Great question! We will be adding that in the next update. It might be a useful feature.

i already have a small list of people i would love to help out! Looking forward to that update! Pretty awesome that you and Dave came up with @dustsweeper love the idea

GREAT question, @charisma777!!!

I already have a few peeps I try to upvote when their votes don't come up to $0.03. Being able to buy on behalf of them would make that all automated and save time.

Thanks for asking!

I think so too! Glad this service has arrived!!

Can you explain how this works in the way @beyoo interpreted it?

When I send SBD, does this buffer the votes I give or the votes I get?

Does it only buffer posts or also comments?

And so the way the fees work, this is not profitable for the subscriber- correct?

All it does is claim the dust? So it would be like I'm upvoting the dust, except you're upvoting on my behalf (but with my own money.)

Hey @omitaylor :)... the way it works is your money goes into a balance for your account that gets created... And then when YOU have a post or comment that is dust, then it will automatically upvote it by the 6th day. So it upvotes YOUR posts and comments so YOU get paid.

And on the 2nd part of that it will depend on the price of steem... 2x is close to breakeven + or - a little % depending on the prices... But what happens is that you get to claim the amount of your vote that was less than $0.019... So if you know you had all supersmall votes like say $0.0001 which is barely a blip, then you wouldn't probably mess with it... But many people have various levels of dust, so on average it should pay you to do it... You can try it out and follow it for yourself and see which accounts get upvoted and see how much you pay and then receive on payout... I think you will be happy with it!

Oh this is interesting. Well I sent .5 to see how it works. I'm so annoyed that people waste their votes that I've been buffering them sometimes with my own up-vote and for other people as well. If this at least breaks even and claims the dust, that's would be amazing. It would also save more senseless buffering and self-voting to buffer the dust, and things like that. I'll give it a whirl.

a like this. do this work on comments to. like a get a up vote on a comment 0.01 then the bot is upvoing my comment . or it is just when a give a upvote?

It works only on the upvotes you get on your posts or comments... It will look at both posts and comments and if they are in the "dust" category of $0.0001 to $0.02499 then the dustsweeper will upvote it by $0.028 so that it gets paid. It will only vote on your posts and comments, not others (unless they subscribe too)

a see have to test it:)

and it ignores self-votes. :)

YES excellent....

Okay, sending you a fraction of sbd. I only have 1 sbd at the moment. Thanks!

That works @silversaver888... as long as you have a balance then the @dustsweeper will clean it up for you ;)

When I build my 1 SPB, I will be sending it in. Hopefully sometime tomorrow. I think this is an awesome program you two dreamed up, and it will benefit a lot of people.

cool @bashadow... but for the record, you can send in any amount... we used 1 sbd so that it was less burdensome to reload all the time! Glad you like it, you are the best!

So how much can I "put in" the "bank". Right now I only have like $0.148, I don't make a lot of rewards, but I do have a few coming in tomorrow, so will a deposit of less than $0.148 really help any? Does the deposits add up to a total? That is one of the reasons pretty excited to see the dust vote nullification, for people like me that vote and comment on a lot of smaller accounts, the vote backs pretty much get dusted, this means that I may be able to grow a little bit more.

Yes you can put that much in and it will get you 10 dust upvotes.... I don't know if the 7th day posts will fly, but you will find out... it will definitely work for 6 day old post...

and yes it goes to a balance... you can deposit any amount you like!

And yes this will definitely help with your way of helping others if they also use it

Ok...you managed to get my hoarding toosh to let go of 1 SBD LOL. I trust you @davemccoy. BTW I did vote for @danielsaori for witness ...finally. To be honest I was crushed when I found out about being dust. I've made a few jokes about it because what else can you do until you grow some more. Now there's something:) Thanks Guys

awesome @tryskele! and don't worry anymore about dust, we are hopefully better than a rumba in real life!

From what I have seen so far....very much so!!

Another wonderful idea from @danielsaori and @davemccoy, you guys are just awesome, sending mine right away.

Thank you so much Grace, I'm happy you like it and I hope you benefit! :)

Very interesting idea. I'm not sure how much I'll benefit but I'll get around to throwing in 1SBD

You'll benefit when members like myself upvote your comment (where my vote value is quite low), the bot will come along and upvote that comment to a point where you will receive a small payout on it.

That is true

Thank you @farq... And you can send a smaller amount if you don't think you will have many dust posts/comments... It is just a balance that you send in for deposit that will automatically decrease with each dust upvote.

I just sent 0.5 SBD and I got a message back saying my balance is 1SBD.

Seems like a good investment ;)

it should state that you got "$1 of upvote value" for the $0.50 in sbd.... I will talk with @danielsaori tomorrow and we will adjust that language... I think I made the mistake when I first talked about it. But you should like it nonetheless ;)

Ah I think I get what you mean - so if I had have sent 1SBD it would say I have 2SBD of upvote value?

exactly... it is 2x no matter how much you send in! That way it is roughly break even vote value for the extra vote and you will be able to keep the dust vote.

Then that makes perfect sense, though the explanation could be a little bit clearer as you have already suggested

This does sound like a good initiative... although @thatsweeneyguy does make some valid points! (and I'm glad you two sorted it out at the end).... I'm all for greater equality but I wouldn't want people getting even three cents for making crap comments on crap content.

The imitative will work I think for now because you know most of the 'good minnows/ newbies' who are going to use it! In the future it could be open to abuse (albeit just dust abuse)...mind you maybe it just wouldn't be worth people's while at such small levels, also I can't imagine it would have a huge impact on the rewards pool, much less than the abuse at the top end.

Sounds like @danielsaori's worth a witness vote.

I'm half tempted to upvote his comment to the top of the list, above all the (IMO desevered) congratulatory ones), the discussion below is actually quite educational and worth a read.

Although I won't because, as he said, it did start off ranty, ouch, we've all done it.

Good work on the bot,

Karl.

Thank you for the even handed way of looking at this and for taking the time to write up a thoughtful reply! We are very aware that people might try to game the system, so we have some ways of monitoring things that we have already thought of... Your one point that is the most valid though is the utter smallness of the value... it would be hard to believe too many would try to devise a scheme that would yield them at best a $0.01.

And I also like that you read and liked the dialogue we had at the bottom... I do think it is good to have civil disagreements and I think we both will prosper from that exchange in the future!

Finally, I whole heartedly agree that @danielsaori is a great vote for a witness... I have seen him help newbies and minnows from the 2nd week I was on the platform! Have a great weekend Karl!

I just added him, I'm going to have a think also about how to publicize the whole witness thing a bit more effectively.... maybe a little strapline at the bottom of every post in the near future. It pains me to see Jerry above curie every time I look at that list.

Can I just double check one thing... I've just paid SBD1 (had to experiment with it) so does this mean if I get a $0.001 upvote from a newbie on a comment I make on a newbie's post, @dustsweeper will upvote that comment so I actually get the payout.... in which case it won't so much be newbs benefiting but the steemit 'middle class'. (There's also a small rep boost with every little upvote too I guess).

In which case it's a great way of motivating 'downward interaction' - sounds harsh calling it that, but I've got to admit, there is a temptation on here to engage in 'upward interaction commenting' - especially when I've had quite a few upvotes worth several dollars (one nutter upvoted one of my comments at $20SBD)....

Still, all in all it's a good thing, @dustsweeper I mean, not just commenting on the posts of the rich!

Possibly one of the biggest winners will be @dustbuster - assuming someone's got that account, there may be a few mistaken transfers, I keep wanting to call it that.

haha.. on your last point.. yes we thought of using dustbusters (with an s) and realized many might type it wrong... :P...

On the votes, they are ONLY cast on your dust... if you have dust, it will get upvoted... So while you have given me another idea of another project, I must inform you that your dustsweeper subscription will only take care of your dust... (ps... You can tell those that you interact with to set up an dustsweeper account and they will be paid on any small votes that you may cast)

I do like your idea of going downward interaction, I will give that some thought and see what we may be able to do with that brilliant idea! :)

Oddly enough I had my question answered when I saw @dustsweeper in action - works just fine.

Good point on the plural, it does seem kind of unnatural, and so ...sweeper is better.

Thanks for the support, Karl!
You are right about the functionality. Any of your posts/comments with an upvote value of less than $0.025 will be upvoted.

It is a good observation about the groups benefiting most from this programme. The honest answer is that I don't know. I guess it is not that black and white. But our feeling is that minnows are the ones with small votes, and they normally received many small votes from other minnows. That was the logic behind our statement.

I'm not really sure what you mean by 'downward interaction', you mean commenting on posts by smaller accounts?
If that's correct, I never thought of it in that way, but it's an interesting point. Getting big upvotes from a dolphin/whale would still be much more profitable. Also, minnows with less than 500SP cannot vote with less than 100% so it would limit the number of votes if someone would try to make a system out of it.

Hi - by 'downward interaction' I meant encouraging interaction with smaller accounts - basically because the more comments I (for example) make on smaller accounts, the more likely I am to get dust votes, at least with a dustsweeper subscription I guarantee myself some kind of reward!

It is tempting to go hunting after those big whale upvotes on comments, but this encourages much broader interaction I think.

It's a great idea,

Karl.

What a great initiative! Consider me in! Thanks for everything you guys do! :)

Thank you Amber for your support.

I wish you a nice weekend.

You too bud! :)

100% upvote and resteem. This is a brilliant idea @danielsaori and I will definitely be joining :-D thanks so much for taking action to solve this dust problem! as usual, you're doing amazing things for us minnows and newbies.

Awesome @amariespeaks! I am very happy you like it and happy to have you onboard! :)

We should thank @davemccoy for the idea and his initial manual dust cleaning effort.
It was after his post we started to plan for a way to automate it. We worked with the name Dustbuster, but unfortunately that was an old steem account created back in 2016.

Thanks for your support and the nice words.

you're welcome - you two guys toss the praise back and forth ;-) that's how I know you're good people. The code is definitely unfortunate.. I was surprised by the rounding down..it doesn't make sense to me - but I'm sure someone has some reason for creating the dust threshold.. ? But now that we know we can fight back - words are not enough thanks for identifying and attacking this issue whether it was dave or you - you both are steemit-rockstars in my book.

Great - I'm gonna give this a whirl :)

Great!
You just got 8 votes, and a total value of $0.068 saved. ;)

Sounds good to me ;P

awesome! Happy to have you try it out! :)

Quick question...

  • Will the bot let us know when we are out of credits?
or do we need to keep track?

Thanks for the very awesome service!

Yes, you will get notifications when your balance is low and when you are out of cash.

Why not! I trust you guys, so I'm willing to give it a go!

Happy to hear that Bengy.
If you have any questions, please let me know.

Just one question that I wasn't totally clear about. I understood that the service would upvote the upvotes that I give to other people on my posts?

But after reading a bit more, is it upvoting the votes that people give to my comments on my posts?

I have been trying since yesterday to transfer SBD to @dustsweeper and I keep getting a transfer broadcast error. This is my first time trying this so I don't know if it's something I'm doing wrong or the system being overwhelmed by people wanting to join your program!

I think the network has been stable so shouldn't be that. Are you sure you are using your active key and not your posting key?

It appears that the keys I saved are all public keys. I finally used my last choice, a key I'd rather not use, and it did seem to go through. But Steemd isn't showing a change. Is there a waiting time?

Nevermind, It did go through and it's already working!

I'm glad you got it to work :).... and when sending money from your wallet, I think you need your "active key"... You might want to try that one if you don't want to use the owner key or password.... And here's a tip... use another browser to try it and save the password if it does work so you can always have a back up on another browser.

The active key I tried to use was rejected as being public. sigh. It's the same one that shows on my Steemd account. If I have a private active key I apparently didn't save it. double sigh.

That is an excellent suggestion to use another browser. Might even do that on my laptop as a double back up! Thank you!

Another "side effect" that I haven't seen mentioned here yet, is the potential curation that the original voter may receive as well. Yet another way that us little players can grow steadily

I'm not sure there will be much in the way of curation, but you are right that if any it is better than nothing! :)

Yeah, probably not a significant amount, but I did get a couple of 0.001 SP rewards when you "dustbusted" comments that I'd voted on the other week.

well cool... see I didn't know that! And btw, you can thank yourself a bit for this too... that post was the post that led to this happening! I saw the demand firsthand and knew people really felt better when they got paid!

Yeah, I had plenty to work with as I engage with several fellow members that are pretty low on the totem pole like I am. I was actually glad to be able to add some substance to my little upvotes so they would actually get aome benefit for replying to my comments or commenting on my own posts.

This is a cool idea, and I know dust votes have been in the news lately. The big problem really is for comments, and not really posts as normally the latter will surpass the cumulative total of $0.03.

I had prepared a post about this topic and other things, and was going to post it in the next day or two. Its about someone who follows me, namely @appyguy who was commenting about his problem he has with 'dust votes'.

I will append my article and mention this within. Its a great idea, and thanks for the community help. Lets make everyone aware of this so it is a success!

For anyone having issues with steemit.com now, use https://steemitstage.com. Its just the same, but everyone looks like this:

Thank you very much for appreciating the problem @slobberchops! I am thankful that you are going to bring it up in your upcoming post! I too think it is an issue that will be helpful for newbies and minnows so the more people that learn about it the better! :)

Happy to hear you will share this initiative. More importantly, it is great you will spread the concept of "dust" with the community. I think this is still a new topic which many people are not aware of, and as a newcomer, it wouldn't be something you would get in contact with. It is also not very logical, up until the payout day there is a $0.02 value next to your post, but then suddenly this disappears when the 7 days payout period is up.

Just wondering how the automation works. I have noticed some posts of mine that have an upcoming payout of $0.00 are passing by and others are getting the dust vote which propels them to author payout status.

Does it ignore $0.00 votes and only append to $0.01 and $0.02 ones?

I noticed a $0.00 passed by a few minutes ago and didn't get a vote.

There's some more below that will either be appended or not in the next 9 hours. I'll watch them and let you know what happens. Apologies for the small text.

You have to have at least 1 vote and not a self-vote, and a value less than $0.025. That is basically all.

As we are figuring out how much SP we need it could be that it is skipping some posts/comments as there is not enough VP. But Dustsweeper always loops through the users starting with the last one that received a vote.

Currently, you have received 20 votes and saved an amount of $0.283, that otherwise would have turned into dust.
We hope to make these stats available to all, probably via Discord.

Thanks for the response @danielsaori. Assuming the $0.283 for 20 votes is an SBD value, I have to question if this is in fact worth doing?

If 20 votes are worth $0.283, then a single vote is technically valued at $0.01415 ($0.283 / 20). If I get 71 votes for 1SBD then the worth of it is $1.00465. ($0.01415 x 71).

It's only nominally better than not bothering. This is not critiscim, just the facts that Im seeing in front on me.

The $0.283 value is only the original upvote value, the amount you would have lost. You also have to take the upvote from the bot, which you paid for into account. The value of the bot vote itself will basically give you 0 in return, so you can see the $0.283 as your profit/savings.

Hope that makes it more clear.

@mariannewest60 This might be a way to help out those of us who’d like to upvote comments and still recieve something instead of the cote being wasted. Thoughts?

exactly the point @tristancarax... At least if people have the @dustsweeper, then the votes will not be wasted! :)

That is exactly the idea behind this. A helping hand to make it feel that a $0.01 vote is not worthless.

Does it work for comments as well?

Yes, comments are the main target as those normally receive a low number of votes.

This is a vvery good project for redfishes and minnows like me! Thank you for the both of you for thinking of this!

we have @themanwithnoname and now I think @themanthatneversleeps ... :P

I'm glad you like it Mav! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Ha ha, that's funny. One of these days I'm going to take the time to figure out creating a new account with blocktrades and I'm going to make some with funny names. :D

btw, its very easy... the only problem is that you have to pay 4 steem for each one of them... so it isn't as cheap as a new email address from google :P

and I thought you'd like that one!

Happy you liked it. It is a simple idea and a simple bot running the show. But sometimes simplicity is the best. :)

This is absolutely brilliant--great work all of you on this initiative @davemccoy, @danielsaori this is a very nice touch and very useful for so many minnows that are active on steemit and now they can lock in rewards thanks to this! Wonderful work, @danielsaori you have definitely earned my vote for witness I am hopeful everyone else will do the same!

Awesome Cryptokeeper! We truly hope this will turn into a great service for minnows.
Thanks for your support!

Thank you @cryptkeeper17! I'm very happy that you saw this and support the effort!

Fantastic initiative Gentlemen, but I do have one point I'd like to clarify.

Does this concept only apply to commenta/posts that I make that receive a vote? Or will it also work on comments that I sprinkle my dust vote on?

Thanks Sparkesy43.

Very good and valid question. Something we need to clarify.
It is only for your own posts/comments. Your dustsweeper balance will be used to guarantee that upvotes on your own posts/comments won't turn into dust. Another thing, it doesn't take self-votes into account.

We are planning on releasing an FAQ shortly to cover more practical points like this.

Thanks for the clarity. I'll have to encourage others to get onboard so they can benefit from my votes too. The other question I have, is will members be notified when their balance runs out?

Yes, there will be a notification when your balance is low and when your account balance is so low that your dustsweeper account is disabled.

Excellent. Thanks.

hey @sparkesy43... thank you! And on your point, it will only work for your account on the comments and posts that YOU have that have dust on them. You don't need to upvote them yourself, that is the purpose of this bot. It will automatically upvote anything that qualifies as dust on the 6th day (as long as it isn't you as the voter on your own post or comment. Does that make sense?

Thanks Dave, I've already received my first @dustsweeper upvote. How awesome is that?

Great idea. Made a contribution. Blessings. Oh, and will be voting for @danielsatori

You're awesome @mistermercury! And thank you for voting for @danielsaori too! We need to spread the word on that one ;)

Good to see you around @davemccoy

Same to you too MM! I see you are climbing quite nicely too in your Reputation! I had a hunch that was going to happen ;)

Great initiative! Just joined! Sent 1 SBD, got 2 SBD south of upvotes in my account! Thanx @dustsweeper!

Thank you @mcoinz79 :) Happy to have you onboard!

Great! We hope you will enjoy @dustsweeper's service.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

This is great! I will defiantly be sending in my dollar. Thanks so much for thinking of this. Those pennies really do add up.

I agree completely @headchange... I'm very happy you like it!!!

Indeed, it can really add up, and it is a shame for so many people to feel like their vote is wasted.
Regarding the dollar, it is not a fixed value, just a recommendation. You can send in anything bigger than $0.014 SBD to activate your account. Maybe we should clarify that in the text.

That may be a good idea. The people who will benefit the most are the ones with the smallest amounts handy.
So I call Dave Santa, does that make you an elf?

yes you are right about the smaller accounts... and @danielsaori answered it... But Daniel is actually the big Santa and I am the helper on this one :D

Does this work for comments as well as posts?

Yes it works for both posts and comments!

Awesome, thanks!

You're welcome! :)

I just signed up ... thanks for coming up with this great Idea !

I saw @lynncoyle1's post promoting this. This seems like another great initiative! After learning about this dust voting, I have been real careful with where my votes go, now it seems I don't have to be as careful! I think I may give this a go! Thanks @davemccoy and @danielsaori for providing what seems like an honest and beneficial service to the community!

Hey @iexplore, great to see you :)... I'm happy you found this and glad you are going to participate! You still need to remember that you only have about 10 votes a day (unless you use a manual slider)... but yes the good thing is your votes can count (if the other person uses this service)... So you might want to let people know how it works too! Glad you like it and have a great weekend!

So by "other person" you mean the person I vote on needs to use the services too for the vote to matter?

So glad I could help @iexplore :)

I'm trying to understand the mathematics of this. I send you 1 SBD. You upvote 71 of my posts for a total of .014 SBD each. That's .994 SBD return. And if I understand this correctly, I only get 75% of that as an author, so it's only .7455 SBD, or 50/50 SBD/STEEM split. What am I missing?

Hello Blockurator, the 0.014SBD is your actual cost but the upvote value from the bot is roughly $0.028.

Out of the $0.028, you keep 75%, or 0.021.
50% in SBD = 0.0105 SBD
50% in STEEM we take 0.0105 and divide it by 1.68(current STEEM price) = 0.006 STEEM
0.006 STEEM is worth around 0.0075 SBD
So 0.0105 + 0.0075 = 0.018 SBD

So at this moment, you are actually getting more in return. When we first released Dusty it was basically +/- 0, but due to the price drop it has changed slightly. The return from Dusty was always meant to come from the saved dust, the vote itself shouldn't be profitable.

I hope that helps.
Please let me know if you have some questions linked to the calculation.

I think I'd sweep my dust myself .

Thank you 😁😁✌

That's cool as well.
For me, dusting has never been my thing. Prefer others to take care of it. :)

Thanks @davemccoy and @danielsaori !! What a great addition for us little guys :)

so cool!!!! thanks @mysearchisover for tuning me into this! i'll send in some SBD soon! thank you everyone!

Excellent!! :)

Thank you @eaglespirit... I saw you already getting some dust cleaned up! Happy to have you onboard

hey DM! i did? i dont see it ... still not sure how this works but i went back a few days and still some .02 ers muahahahaahh
thank you for doing this and yay!

yes you did :P .... I have seen your name pop through there quite a bit actually... Here is what I can see from the steemworld page which is where I watch it from: https://steemworld.org/@dustsweeper

if you every want to check, all the votes are listed in that steemworld page ;)

@nathankaye this is what dust looks like ... and how it is remedied .... check it out.

Thanks lovely. I just sprinkled fairy dust on your comment from my phone because it won’t show me what my percentage is worth.

yay fairy dust!! my fav kind of dust! i thank you so much for that, i felt it. :)

i hope this helps you, it can be quite overwhelming. big hugs.

yay!!! you see how many dusts i have!! what the cheese ... i knew it! no one believes me when i tell them either. wow ... a shame this has to even happen. smh
we need to go back bc i still see spammers! tears ... many tears shed ... :p

You may have just won my witness vote with this one. I'm gonna look at your profile first but I think you got it.

Thanks a lot for your support! That's awesome whatamidoing.

I think I will try your service. Don´t you doubt me bro ;) ...

awesome! I think you will like it ;)
