do you hold some comics/ action figures etc as an investment if it is very limited or so?

Are modern comics still this limited? Or is the market to flooded by new releases etc?

I do. One of the guys in one of my comic groups popped up a post a while back showcasing his investment portfolio. He showed his stock portfolio...only investing in blu chip stocks along with his comic portfolio over the same time in which case he only invested in blue chip books. His comic portfolio had FAR outperformed his stocks. It was really interesting to see laid out like that.

As for modern stuff, the answer to your questions are sometimes and sometimes. Lol

It really depends on a bunch of factors. Take for example the modern grail of variant covers...Amazing Spider-Man #667 Dell’Otto variant. Came out in the past 10 years and literally is a ghost. It rarely pops up for same and the book has gone from being a several hundred dollar book to fetching almost 15k in high grade. I bought mine a put 2 years ago for $1800 and while my copy has a couple of flaws, I could easily move mine right now for $4-$6k. Now that’s the exception...for every book like that, there are a hundred that have the opposite approach. Like anything it comes down to supply and demand.

wow that is crazy. I find those "out of the norm" investments like comics, magic cards pretty exciting even I have no stake in the game and probably never will.

How do you spot potential winners? Blue chip books are like well known comics like Batman, spiderman etc?

Yeah basically just as in stocks, your blue chips will be your elite top of the pack type stuff. For example.

  • Incredible Hulk 181 (1st appearance Wolverine)

  • Amazing Spider-Man 129 (1st Punisher)

  • Werewolf by Night 32 (1st Moon Knight)

Books like that. Key issues and first appearances of major characters that have already stood the test of time.

I think those are a great place to hedge bets. If we get into another economic downturn, I’ll be looking to invest into some of these books a bit more as that is the time to do it.
