Of the 2 of 12 comic books that have been released so far I really enjoyed this sequel to the Watchmen series by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. And while I think DC typically lacks in comparison to other publishers this is a step in the write direction.
I was impressed with the writing as it shied away from the stereotypical comic book mantra of simple sentences with cool drawings. It brings a reality to the character that you would find in a non-fictional novel. That coupled with the artwork really makes this a must read if you have any interest in the superhero realm.
That said, it stays true to its roots of deconstructing the superhero genre. The goal, as seen in the writing, is not to tell a linear story about good and bad with lots of action. The story is a play on societies moral struggles.
Further, with the addition of the entire DC universe it will be interesting to see how this deconstruction is applied to the heroes we are most familiar with i.e. Superman and Batman.
Highly recommend this comic!
