Did you know that The Phantom only had a single author for over sixty years?
After a hard blog yesterday I thought I'd do a fun and upbeat post. I hope you enjoy.
Do you know or remember the Phantom? By jeepers, I do. I loved him, he was going to be my future husband. I started reading him even before I could read properly. I still have my collection today.
They are all on display in our music room. Although I haven't read them for some time, so today after all the household chores I am going to enjoy a few.
Here is my very first Phantom comic. I was with my family at the Royal Perth Show, at age 7. I was allowed only one show bag so after looking at many booths I came across this one show bag that had a Phantom comic in it... I had to get this one and it was the only bag I wanted anyway.
As you can see he's been in a bit of the wars.. I no longer have the cover for it, however other than that and the rip on the first page and some yellowing of the paper, there is no other damage.
All my comics live in plastic sleeves and only for adults to handle... Well as we do not have children they are not in danger of little hands ✋.
So here is a little trivia concerning The Phantom. You can find more info here.
The Phantom was created by Lee Falk in 1936. By mid 2000s the phantom had lost his appeal, sales being very rare. Apparently, although initially the 1996 Phantom movie boosted sales off the roof it was short lived and said to be a part of the phantom's down fall.
The Phantom has been adapted for film twice. A 1943 film serial starred Tom Tyler as the Phantom and Ace the Wonder Dog as Devil. Better known (if not better regarded) is the 1996 film starring Billy Zane as the Phantom, Kristy Swanson as Diana Palmer and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Sala.
Hope you have enjoyed reading this. Thanks for visiting.
