So I've decided that amongst my most brilliant ideas ever is that I will become a stand up comedian. I mean how hard could it be? Well, let's see...
- there are like a million comics out there
- ...of which only a small percentage make enough money to put food on the table
- getting known in the community means seriously grinding it out
- one can be "funny" but how does that translate to a stage with lights and sauced up patrons
I'm not trying to be a downer, just a realist. You can't get into something for the sole reason that there exists the potential to make a significant amount of money. I think becoming a male stripper would have more guaranteed returns.. and I don't look like Zac Effron with my shirt off. But if you are truly passionate about something and prove to be good at it, the rewards are more than just financial.
I'm just tired of the rat race... 40 hour work weeks that build up to this goal of enjoying it after your mid 60s. Is this really the dream life we all want to live??? Not if I can help it. I hope you can find something that sets you free from the status quo.
Wishing you well,
G
(My next post will be about the prep work leading to a 5 minute open mic set in the near future. )
