Hi Steemmates!
I hope you are all having a great day :) Today, I would like to introduce you to one of Mexican traditions known as the Huichol art. This unique art includes folk-art and handcrafts produced by the Huichol people, native Americans (or Indians) who live in some parts of Mexico such as the states of Durango, Jalisco or Nayarit.
Beadwork is arguably the most important and popular type of the Huichol art. Originally, the Huichol people used natural materials such as yarn and beads made from stones and clay for their crafts but these days, the traditional materials are replaced with commercially produced items imported from other part of the world (including my home country, the Czech Republic)
Yet, as you can see in these photos that I took in a specialized Huichol art shop here in Riviera Maya, the crafts still look amazing. Even the smallest objects still take several days to complete. Now this is what I call a painstaking job!
You have my utmost respect, Huichols :)
This is also my entry for today´s #colourfulphotography contest organized by @juliank and @photocontests.
Thank you for visiting my blog and voting for me in the contest :) Have a great Thursday and see you in my next post!

Many thanks, it is beautiful and very original. Although you call it painful job it was done with love. No machine can do it this way. Peoples energy is different than machines. Additionally, I love Mexican culture, dialect and music.
To věřím :) Latinská Amerika má své kouzlo.
Lidová řemesla a tradice si zaslouží obdiv.
Přesně tak :)
;-)
Ten leguán je superní! Mě by asi taková titěrná piplačka i bavila, ale asi spíše jen jednorázově :-)
Asi tak :D Podle mě to je něco ve stylu skládaní puzzle - s nekonečným počtem dílků :D
Paráda!
Hah, I guess now I know from where goes Ed Hardy clothing design, I love it too much :)
:D This one got me LOL :D
Haha, so true! :D Thanks for stopping by btw, its an honor for me to have a photographer like you checking my images. I love your shots of the Baltic Sea :)
Připomíná mi to zažehlovací plastové válečky, ale ty se skládaly ve 2D. Toto bude jiná finta. Každopádně to vypadá moc hezky.
Blahopřeju k vyprodukování 1001 postů, fakt nezahálíš!
Jo, tohle bude asi jiná finta :D Díky, těch komentů mám na můj vkus až moc. Minimálně vzhledem k počtu followers, řekl bych. Měl bych asi mluvit míň a kvalitněji :D
wow it looks so cool and it's definitely colorful :)
Thanks :) Yeah, the colors are incredible. The Huichols rock!
yes definitely !! :)
I've spent a lot of time in Acapulco (plus visits to Oaxaca and other places). I've never seen such painstakingly-created colorful art in those places.
Skulls I don't care for, but the iguana looks fantastic: super colorful!
This art is common for the Huichol people, so you will find this type of art mostly in the areas they are living.
Thanks. Gives me a good excuse to see even more of Mexico
A want to see much more of Mexico too. You were in Oaxaca right? Could you recommend it ? Heard a lot of good things about it and the Oaxaca cheese is delicious! :D I have traveled Yucatan. When you need some tips for Yucatan feel free to ask!
Recommend Oaxaca? Absolutely, but not for the cheese (you can pick that up in any Mexican supermarket). I stayed a few days in a charming small hotel called Las Golondrinas (full of flowers, great place to bring your significant other), but there are plenty of other hotels.
Oaxaca mole is marvelous: http://www.foodrepublic.com/2012/08/15/the-7-moles-of-oaxaca/
Also be sure to try the chocolate:

i have eaten the cheese a lot, as well I tried the chocolate. Both are delicious. So good to know that Oaxaca per se is worth to travel. Thanks mate
Thanks for your comment :) Maybe this kind of artwotk is sold only in certain parts of Mexico? I dont know :) Yeah, the iguana is awesome. There are tons of real iguanas here in Yucatan.
So much color!!! I like it a lot, especially the skulls.
Thanks! Glad you like it :)
Looks amazing. When you are in Valladolid you have to visit "Casa de los Venados" There is a private art collection you can visit. He has awesome stuff there from different areas in Mexico
