RE: Happy Thursday Steemit, Share Your Macro And Colourful Photography!

When it comes to abuse, spam, scam, plagiarism, and stuff, I've been told that I am very strict and harsh. But reading your comments here, I must say that I feel like an extremely light chamomile cup of tea in comparison to judge and jury role you decided to take in this case.I think guys ( @erikah, @christianunger, and @ruta) that you are a bit too harsh on @juliank.

Why I'm saying this? - Simply because, I can't get rid of the feeling best explained in the following quote from some unknown author.

"You can do 99 things for someone and all they'll remember is the one thing you didn't do!"

So, let's see some facts here...

  • The truth is that @juliank has been silent and didn't post any contest results on his @photocontests account (created for that purpose) for something over a month by now.
(Do we know why? I'll be free to assume that we don't, in fact. - It also seems that we tend to forget that real life is happening outside of Steemit too, every day and every single minute. The ugly real life that might explain why this is happening.
Maybe he just took a month long vacation and he would catch up when he returns.
As one of the Utopian active contributors, maybe he is working on some other project running out of time for this contests.
OK, I admit, if any of the above two is the case it would be way better and nicer if he informed and told us about it in advance.
But, maybe he lies down in a coma in some hospital's bed or maybe he is even dead. - I hope, any of those is not true, although it wouldn't be the first case in the last past two years, as long as I have been on Steemit.
In other words, there are hundreds of maybe possibilities that may cause the current situation about which we don't know anything about!)
  • The truth is, that he created and initiated this contest about 10 months ago, and during that period (except the last month) he was working on it consecutively on a daily basis.
  • The truth is also, that in the beginning, at the early stage upon the creation of this account here, he invested some of his own (somewhere else) hard earned money into this platform and account.
(You may see that by yourself if you would dig down deep enough through his history activity.)
  • As well, the truth is that solely from these funds and the "money" he earned here before and in the meantime by posting and some other Steemit activities, he funded the prize pool for this contest on his own expense and entirely free for every single contestant.
(Meaning, he never asked for donations or sponsorship, and as well, following, upvoting, resteeming or what so ever has never been a mandatory condition for the contest enrollment.)
  • The truth is that at some point he turned his "Daily deadline reminder posts" on some autopilot.
(Meaning, he created 10, 30 or even 100 posts in advance that are going to be published at a certain schedule. You are FREE to do the same if you are capable to create so many posts in advance. There are a lot of apps out there, like SteemAuto, eSteem and many others that would help you to do so, and there is nothing abusive or against the Steemit rules in that.)
  • But, it's also the truth that he was curating the contest tags (that he created), picking and paying the contest winners MANUALLY, on a daily basis.
(During that long period while he was doing that every day and PAYING the winners (from his own pocket), I don't recall seeing any of you complaining about his in advance scheduled (automated) "Daily deadline reminder posts" either not chasing the way or reason where to report him and for what.)
  • The fact is, as well, that @juliank contributed to this community through past almost year and a half, not only with this contest but with many other different things and projects he was working on, on and for this platform.
(If you would be open enough to consider making some more in-depth research, maybe you'll be more positively surprised with the findings.)

However, and to conclude...

As first, and talking from my own (not so long ago) experience when because of my mother's health condition and afterward death, my whole life (not only my Steemit life and activity) turns upside down in many ways leaving me without a single minute to even think about certain things and even less having the time to post a single letter about what's, in fact, going on, I think we could show more patience and understanding for @juliank as well, especially because we don't really know what caused this sudden, unannounced stop of his activity, and if nothing because all of that he has done and gave to this community in the past and for a long period.

I know, it's always easier to judge than to understand. But, I believe, until the whole situation is not going to be better clarified (no matter if by itself through time or by him), and even in case that we are really concerned that something suspicious and inappropriate is going on around here, we still have numerous other options at our disposal, like:

  • pause or stop following him (and his other accounts)
  • pause or stop upvoting his posts and (automated) comments
  • pause or stop participating in his contest(s)
  • stop using (although quite reputable) tags that he created, etc.

Those who were playing his Fairlotto may pause or stop playing it.
(I would be free to assume here that players have been aware in advance with the overall rule connected with every lottery game which is always attached to a huge risk, and in which game we should never enroll in with more "money" than we are already prepared to lose.)

In other words, I believe, putting him on hold with some or all of above-described actions would be way better and more appropriate having in mind his past activity and contribution, before we condemn him with a final verdict and "crucify" him just like that!

Quora).Otherwise, it might turn out that we are just heartless people full of pure selfishness who were using @juliank (as long as he was dancing on our music) just as an utility (as Sunil Sharma nicely described such human behavior on

Sort:

you are right, there could be many reasons why he can't respond. I also understand the idea to automate posts like these.

however we are seeing lots of people leaving the platform and bots and bot votes taking over. just automated posts and automated self-votes as such might also be seen as problematic by some users - or even considered spam. but that is more a steem problem and not a photocontests issue :)
