This is locally called bulaney. Bignay, or bugnay in Tagalog and in English, it is widely named as Chinese Laurel, Black Currant Tree, Currant Tree, Currentwood, Salamander Tree, Nigger’s Cord, Wild Cherry, Herbert River-cherry, Queensland-cherry and Salamander-tree.
Apart from the sour taste of this cherry-like fruit which is best for sinigang, it also have great benefits. They claim that this fruit is rich in antioxidant, and is great for weight loss too.
