I respect privacy and usually don't put the photos of people in my posts. Usually, I avoid to even take them.
The festivals or public performance is a different thing. People try to present their culture and customs to the world. When we attend The Calgary Stampede many years ago I got these. I understand the event like some kind of competition.
I'm not familiar enough with a history and politics to comment on this topic. I'm not even sure which words to use to describe the things. Especially because we all know who write the history books. My intent is just to present you some of the culture and some beautiful outfits.
You must admit they are very colorful and that is the name of today's challenge. I hope you like them and learn something new. That was my intent.

The world is a funny place. Just step out of your own backyard, and you are in a different realm. But if you step out into another country, and the sudden culture shock could leave your head spinning.
The great thing about the thousands of peoples around the globe, all with their own lives, religion, history, geography and languages, is that all this combined has created such an amazing array of colorful cultures and unique traditions that will keep the lucky backpacker forever able to pick from the metaphysical box of chocolates and never get the same sample twice.

Indians...They have so many techniques of curing, their Shamans do miracles...Sweat lodge dances and Sun & Moon Dance are cleaning the karma...They live in total harmony with the nature...

Wow lucky you! I am too far, but wish to meet them one day and learn more about their culture and teachings. I love the colors and the way they dress. Their music is very unique and relaxing and one of my favorites.

Fantastic shots. I have always wanted to attend an authentic Pow Wow! I have heard they are an amazing cultural experience. In my grade 6 class many years ago we did a mock Pow Wow. The kids had to learn all about the culture and present a variety of different aspects. We enjoyed music, dance and legends. Such a fun unit to teach.
Calgary is Canada's largest city calculated by population. The population numbered 991,759 people.
And Calgary is a natural and winter sports venue. In 1988 Calgary held the Olympics.
