Colorchallenge: Tuesday Orange

Aloha Tuesday Steemians!

I love playing with the lizards. These are brown anoles (Anolis sagrei). They have pretty much taken over the yard from the green or Carolina anoles. However, I did happily see a green one a few weeks ago. So they are not completely wiped out. The brown anoles are more aggressive and reproduce at an astonishing rate. Anoles have the ability to change color somewhat but it is more from dark to light. They are considered to be more closely related to iguanas than to chameleons.

Part of their territorial display posture includes expanding their dewlaps, the flap under their necks, while bobbing their heads up and down. The brown anoles have reddish-orange dewlaps and it is a challenge to capture it while it is fully extended. On some anoles you can see a “third eye” in the middle of their heads. This is also known as a parietal or pineal eye. While this “eye” cannot see, it can sense light. When I’m out in the yard the anoles watch for me to dig up insects. Sometimes they run over my feet to get their prey.

No one can and no one may.
We ourselves must walk the path.

I love your post, thanks for sharing! I gave you a vote. I hope you enjoy it.

Mahalo, thanks for stopping by!

Great macro shots. I'm terrified of lizards. More than snakes.

Thank you! Oh, they're not so bad. At least most of them are :)

I know. Just some phobia I got. Never been able to overcome

That is a beauty !

Do they bite? One of my previous neighbors have lizards as pets, they live in fish tanks. She always wanted my kids to touch but I was always too worried for them to do so (they were 1 and 4 at that time, so I got worried a lot 😅)

If you try to grab them they bite but they aren't very big so they don't bite that hard. Sometimes they'll nip at your fingers if you try to feed them. You can hardly feel it. Of course they act the same as large lizards which you would have to be more careful with but these guys are small :) Thanks for stopping by!

Whooah good to know!

My sons keep begging for pets, we don't what to get yet, but maybe not lizards for now then 😅

If you research pet needs carefully, you'll be alright. Every pet is different. I like to play with other people's pets, lol!

My 3 yo is still on that stage where he freaks a lot near animals 😅

Reptiles are so interesting!!! and Lizards are sweet! I will have to add a picture of some horny toads here in Utah!

Yes, you should. I would love to see horny toads, lol!
