South American Saturday and Cityscape Photography - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

This is my submission for the 7 World's Continent's South American Saturday Photo Challenge created and curated by @czechglobalhosts. To find out more about how to enter, you can go here.

I thought about holding off on making a post of this until Tuesday for #cityscapephotography but then I figured, why not share it now? I took this photo in Spring 2015 when I visited Rio de Janeiro. If you look closely at the top of the mountain you know exactly where I was headed. Many cities have iconic features that make them instantly recognizable, and for Rio, that is Christ the Redeemer. This statue was built throughout the 1920's and has grown into such a cultural icon it was listed as a new Wonder of the World. While the view from the statue is incredible, as you can see, the view on the way up is pretty spectacular too!

Thanks to @juliank and @photocontests for creating and curating #cityscapephotography!

Looks like there's a kind of aura around the hill of the "Cristo Redentor".
I live in Brazil and never been there, hahaa. I need to travel more in Brazil.

Incredible photo as always @schmidthappens... And glad you didn't decide to wait to share it. Have a great day buddy!

Wow, epic shot! I imagine it's the kind of place where you pretty much have to get a photo of that statue, but this is a great angle for it!

Yeah how can you not get a photo of this statue? But as you can imagine, it's a madhouse right at the base of the statue and honestly, everyone has seen that shot a thousand times. It turns out the journey up there made for a better shot.

I wonder what the air is like up there? It reminds me of something from The Sound of Music.

Like many of the photos that you posted lately this is incredibly peaceful.

Wow, never seen a photo of the statue taken from this spot/angle. Very cool.

Thanks! After your Statue of Liberty post, I have to say I wish I had a better camera for this shot because I agree about the angle being different here. It took so much editing to even get it to this point, partly because of a hazy day but also because of the camera.

Haha, I know way too well what you are talking about here :)) The older/worse images I dig out of my archives, the more editing it takes to get them in a publishable shape.
