Notorious chaos
India’s cities and towns are notoriously chaotic. The riotous rush of cars, trucks, auto-rickshaws, motorbikes, scooters, and various other vehicles results in a fair bit of dust, a lot of noise, and a ton of pandemonium. Generally speaking, if you want a reprieve from the chaos, you have to search for an isolated beach somewhere along the coast, or else go far into the mountains.
Development = devolution
Kochi is the one urban center in India where one can find peace and quiet throughout the urban area. The centuries-old area of Fort Kochi is particularly serene. The most likely reason is that the development which typically throws an urban center into disorder did not occur on the peninsula that comprises Kochi; most of the urban development took place on the mainland, in the neighboring town of Ernakulam.
Left in peace
Fort Kochi, here on Google MapsCityScape Photography contest. In many aspects, Fort Kochi was left as it was. In fact, much of the traditional merchant activity most likely moved to the mainland, too. Consequently, even today, Fort Kochi is unlike any other Indian city of its size. It remains a wonderfully tranquil coastal town, a tropical retreat that is actually a great tropical paradise. Location – This is my entry in @juliank’s
I love those trees in the picture, I wish i could plant that in the backyard at home. Unfortunately, they don't like my country uhuhuhhhh
Mostly I dont like people in a picture, but this guy fits perfectly fine in the image and made the shot complete!
Ya, often people ruin a photo!! :-) But this old man, sauntering ever so slowly across that road, in no hurry to go anywhere, except step-by-step forwards – he adds a great little "story" to this photo.
I cannot remember if I waited for him, or if he just happened to be there. But I was luck to catch him.
Yes you are quite lucky that he is there! He is the cherry on the pie! :p
I visited Kochi 1 year ago and I really felt out of place. I was in the tourist area, then I moved to the center and I still felt out of place, too big and too many Malls. I didn't find a "landmark", something that could tell me about the identity of this city.
I went there with a group of friends, so we all had a great time together. And did not have the opportunity to feel out of place.
But there were many other times in Indian cities when I kinda felt "out of place" or just uncomfortable. That's why it was so great when I found cool places to chill out.
Thank you for the exclusive Indian city silence and tranquility. This I have not seen. Good luck to you and Love.
Wow!
So colorful picture!
I can relaTe this pic to a place that i visited a year ago!
That place were full of green trees, some of them were young, some of them were old!
They were still spreading the happiness!
Happiness of fresh air, happines of peace!
And yes a free happiness!
