This small but magnificent Buddhist temple (known as “Wat Pansao”), stands on some quiet grounds just off one of the main roads circling Chiang Mai, in northern Thailand.

In Chiang Mai, there are more than 300 Buddhist temples (called “wat” in Thai). Some of them are major tourists attractions, and are therefore not the most quiet or serene spots.“Wat Pansao,” on the other hand, is virtually secluded. Many tourist busses drive by this “wat,” but there are no parking space for busses, so none of them stop here.
Moreover, there’s not even a sidewalk running along the front of the grounds, so only a few pedestrians might walk by. And even fewer will come inside the “wat” grounds. I've been there twice, and both days, I was virtually alone, apart from a few temple personnel.
Curve upwards, rise upwards, gaze upwards
As soon as a visitor enters the gate, s/he will see the well-maintained temple (see above photo), with the sleek lines of its roof curving gently upwards. Behind the temple, there’s a lush garden with various statues.
And while the temple has clearly been renovated over the years, the stupa sits unchanged, just as it was when it was erected, centuries ago.

This is my entry in @juliank’s Cityscape Photography contest.
Dress appropriately! No sandals. No Buddha tats! No beach wear! No dreadlock hair! No flesh laid bare! No short shorts. Just long johns. Hide your sex parts. Cover your ding dongs.
No exceptions, except for Americans, we've given up on you barbarians... so just pay and go, Yankees, right? I know, you know?
This is a holy place of all you can eat breakfast buffet dining. Eat gluttonously. Drink... appropriately. Preferably heavily? Spend ruinously. 15% gratuity.
Know your credit limits so that you may transcend them! Try to attain enlightenment with our new Meditation Mimosas! Pitchers half off on Sundays.
Your remark about Americans is prejudiced and unacceptable. A person who practices meditation can make such a comment?
Attend a course of sarcasm and then come back to comment my comments.

A great place. It's great that you have the opportunity and the knowledge of how to enjoy life when others are busy in the world.
@majes.tytyty surely does. Enjoying the moment as they come.
Amazing photography and very informative
Thank you for sharing.. learn a lot about chiang mai..
Your photos and narrative is so enchanting that I would love to visit this place. I would like to stay there for some days and live life of a Buddhist monk. In Sanskrit -ancient language of India, we say, 'Buddham shranam gachchhami'-I take refuge in Buddha.
Before reading the post, i was sure that it will be the temple, then i read what you have written and you know my guess was right, you captured it perfectly, Beautiful view of clouds and sky , also the very color temple.
Another masterpiece. Another interesting writing.
