Greetings dear readers!
In my post, where I met you, I promised to tell you about my hometown of Armavir, located in Russia, in the Krasnodar region.
Little history
At its South-East near the Stavropol region, where in the Kuban ' flows a small river called Urup, exactly in front of the Cossack village Prochnookopskaya in 1839, the year Christ was born a small village, founded by the tribe of the mountain of the Armenians (cherkesogaev) fleeing Circassians convert to Islam.
Patronized by the settlers, major General G. F. von Sass, to whom they appealed with the lowest request for protection of their lives and property.
Thanks to his assistance, an Armenian village, protected by the Kuban river on one side, appeared for 120 families, and three other sides were surrounded by deep and wide ditches.
In memory of those events, The Armenian-Gregorian assumption Church was erected in the center of the former settlement, which is called Armenian by common people.
On its territory you will see memorial slabs telling about how the settlers defended themselves from the raids of nomads, how they continued to expand the boundaries of their village. I learned about this as a student of the mechanics and technology College during a tour organized by one of our teachers. Inside the Church we are, however, not allowed, but very interestingly told about the events of those years.
Now plates lifted and established on a small stele, and then they lay directly on the earth, covering graves of the first clergy.
Already in 1848, the village, whose population reached at that time about a thousand inhabitants, received a new name, and became known as Armavir in honor of the ancient capital of Armenia.
His new name - Armavir, this settlement was due to the fact that it, according to the Armenian-Gregorian priest Petros Patkanyan, had to link it with the memory of the capital of the ancient Armenian Kingdom, which flourished more than 2,000 years ago. By the way, there is still a city with the same name in Armenia.
According to another version of why the future city received such a name, it is believed that translated from Armenian Armavir means "Valley of winds", and strong winds that periodically blow here, correspond to this name. The speed wind reaches such heights, that he Yanks rooftop homes, is billowing centuries-old trees.
The location of the village turned out to be so convenient that in 1875 Vladikavkaz (now North Caucasian) railway was built through It, and from the next year the village became a village.
At the beginning of the last century began the construction of the railway towards the sea, and shortly before the outbreak of the first world war, in the spring of 1914, the year of Armavir became a city.
Since 1996, the year Armavir - a city of regional subordination. It also includes the Old Village and Krasnaya Polyana, Cherished and Deep farm. Currently, the city is home to about 200 thousand people.
About medicine
In the city there are 2 children's and 4 adult polyclinics with branches, a relatively new maternity hospital, two city hospitals, Oncology and tuberculosis dispensaries. All of them were recently renovated. Not so long ago, the city began to operate and built with the latest technology, dialysis center and cardiocenter.
The level of medical care, as well as throughout the country, leaves much to be desired, and it is too early to talk about improving the situation.
On education and culture
Armavir has 15 schools, 5 vocational schools, 5 technical schools, 13 higher education institutions, where you can get a specialty for every taste.
Also in the city there is an ancient drama theater, 3 cinemas, libraries, Palace of culture, Museum of local lore.
About sports
The city was very lucky, because before preparing for the Sochi Olympics, the old stadium was reconstructed, and new facilities were built: a sports complex, a swimming pool and an ice Palace.
About the industry
Unfortunately, after the collapse of the Union, Armavir, a former industrial leader of the region, now can not boast of its industrial base. Those few enterprises that have survived, work half-way. Well-developed trade. The city has many new shops, shopping and entertainment centers.
About transport
There are two railway stations, of which only one is open all year round.
The second serves the coast, so operates only in the summer.
Intercity transportation is also carried out by bus station and bus station, but inside the city you can move on buses, trolleybuses, minibuses and taxis.
