December 27, 2019

My Christmas Vacation began around December 15th, my birthday. I had bought my cake in a supermarket nearby and waited for my husband to come so that we could celebrate it. I celebrated it more for my daughter than for myself. I just wanted her to see a cake and candle because I wanted her to know that we were celebrating a life. My life.

Originally, my plan was to go to El Paseo de la Princesa, The Pathway of the Princess, but we ended up in Plaza las Américas. It wasn't what I wanted. I was clearly disappointed, but I tried to enjoy the mall to the best of my abilities. The mall is great, beautiful and nicely decorated, but I wanted to be outside. I wanted to do something else and it's that I've been at the mall many times, but I can count with only one of my hands the number of times I've been in El Paseo, and it's been twice this year.
Anyway, we walked through the mall which was super crowded because many people were purchasing Christmas gifts and looked at the same stores I looked at almost every weekend. However, they do have some things that are interesting, like a hallway for craft artists. There we saw many of the Three Wise men crafts, which are made every year. We also headed to a store called Hecho en Puerto Rico, which sell products fabricated in Puerto Rico.
I discovered that Puerto Ricans actually make TV dinners. I seriously didn't know that they did. As for most of the store, I was already aware of the coffee which I recommend because it's superb, alcohol and other drinks.

My gift was a book. Shocking, but not really, if you know me.
The week after that I went to an office party that was held in my husband's work. He was playing the guitar, while other employees were playing maracas, Guiro, and Quattro. The party was excellent. There was live music and food everywhere, but honestly, I felt that my husband's parranda was better. It felt that it came from the heart and when things come from the heart, it doesn't matter how much money you pour at "so-called professionals". The heart usually speaks in louder volumes.
Then I returned to the mall again because at 11:15 am every day, Norberto's Book store tells stories to children and at 2 pm it "snows". We missed the storytime, but my daughter was thrilled with the snow. She caught the "snowflakes" which are actually just dots of soap falling from a machine. She has never seen snow before and after the event, she wished for it to snow in Puerto Rico. I told her that that would be a little difficult for Santa.

After the snow, we saw a live Nativity. I took photos of Mary, Joseph, the baby Jesus, the angel, and the three wise men. I was surprised that they used a real baby which by the way reminded me of my daughter when she was that small.

I thought that the event was fine, but the music was too loud, in fact so loud that the baby almost woke up.
This year on Christmas eve we stayed home because my husband was very sick and remained in bed most of the time. We ate pork which is the national holiday Christmas food in our country and plantain. I wanted to buy tembleque, which is a national holiday dessert, super delicious made with coconut, vanilla, and other ingredients, but I felt that the supermarket tembleque looked horrible, so I bought cupcakes and frozen cherry pie instead. We saw a few holiday films and kept it simple since we're just three people. My daughter played with her dolls and I read.
Christmas day was a fun day for my daughter. She received a lot of gifts and was very grateful. I hunted for books and the rest of the day was pretty quiet. Christmas is a long holiday in Puerto Rico. It starts after Thanksgiving and ends in January, so we still have future plans. We're going to La Feria, the park, which is a fair with machines, clowns, games, you know, the usual. My daughter's never gone to the fair before, so, I want her to experience something new and fun.
There were many parties in Puerto Rico this year, theaters were showing Cinderella Christmas, the Nutcracker and the Nativity and many others. There were also municipality parties everywhere, craft arts parties, people giving out gifts and music everywhere. Usually, we go to a friend's house or to a lot of these parties and have fun, but this year we took it slow because of the illnesses at home. Next year will be better.

I hope you liked my blog post. Later.
