Is Christianity a religion?

I used to hear several Christians here and there saying that Christianity is not a religion and i don't quite understand why they think this way. Some say Christianity is not a religion because religion has to do with tradition where you have to do certain things consistently without necessarily having a spiritual connection with God but Christianity has to do with the spiritual connection with with God and so Christianity is not a religion.

But for me i think Christianity is a religion, but i belief that Christians should look beyond the religious aspects of Christianity. I belief that Christianity is a religion for many reasons but i will just talk about one of the reasons. Part of the attributes of religion is prayer and prayer is something that Christians do and should do consistently. So i belief that Christianity is a religion because prayer is something that is practised consistently by Christians. But then this is just my view.

So what are your thoughts about Christianity has a religion?

Sort:

dis na my first time wey i dey hear say some pple dey talk say christian no be religion. since wey i start to get sense till now na christian religion i dey hear, even for school self na christian religion knowledge we dey call am.
my own reason wey go make me stand say christian na religion be say

Religion na wen u dey respect and worship wetin be say you believe say e pass any person or any animal from your mind say the thin fit do magic for you anytime wey u want am or anytime wey you give am wetin he dey like.

😀😀😀😀. Ok

I have no doubts that Christianity is a religion!

Me too. Thank you.

Christ hated tradition and religion. So do I, as a someone who accepted Jesus as his Lord and Saviour.

1 Peter 1:18-19, "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:"

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Jesus hated the pharasees (religion) - endless verses prove.

Finally - the Father says: AMOS 5:21 I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.

Ok. May God grant us the grace to follow him.

I don't think there is evidence that Christ hated tradition itself. Paul wrote:

2 Thessalonians 2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.

Also,

James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

There is nothing wrong with tradition or religion as long as they are of God and not man.

Religion is a system of faith and worship. A system of faith and worship was given to the Jews by God through Moses. Christ followed the law of Moses perfectly and upheld all the commands of God, he followed his religion perfectly. I don't believe that Christ would hate what his Father, our God, created and gave to him.

Mark 7:13, 20

I think in Christianity, prayer is a strong medium of connection with God. Everything depends on the belief and worship of that religion.

I don't believe Christianity is a religion anymore. It has become a group of religions. There are many religions today who have very different systems of faith and worship but call themselves Christian.

May God guide us christians in his way.
