Getting To Know Yourself Part One: What Is Man?

Memory Verse: Psalm 8:4-5

Man is an intelligent being, a tripartite being made up of spirit, soul and body.

Man is the focal point of God's creation, its crowning glory and everything else God created and put on the earth is for the service of man: to help him fulfill his God-given destiny or purpose.

Man's spirit is the most important part of man, because it is the only one that has the ability to relate with God (Psalm 31:5; 78:8; Proverbs 20:27; Ecclesiastes 12:7).

The second most important part of man is the soul (Matthew 16:26; 3 John 1:2).

The soul of man acts as a house for the spirit of man to dwell in and a bridge connecting the spirit with the body, enabling the spirit to experience and relate with the physical world.

The third and less important part of man is the body (Job 19:26).

The body of man is a disposable house or vehicle meant to house the spirit and soul of man and subject it to the earth plane for as long as necessary.

Man as a spirit, soul and body maintaining a right and intimate relationship with his Creator is a god on earth, with power, authority and dominion over all of creation including Satan and the fallen angels.

Adam and Eve were gods on earth before Satan overthrew them.

"I have said, You are gods; and all of you are children of the Most High." (Psalm 82:6).

Jesus Christ himself reiterated this eternal truth in John 10:35-36.

A lion gives birth to a lion, a goat gives birth to a goat and a dog gives birth to a dog etc.

Like begets like: that is the order of nature.
That means a God gives birth to a god.

Man lacks a true understanding of who and what he really is; and because of that Satan deceives people into believing that they are mere flesh and blood, and that this transient physical existence is all there is to life.
Moreover, Satan gives man misplaced priorities such as pursuit of wealth, fame, power and control over others, usually to his own hurt; while neglecting the weightier matters, such as love of God and man, faith in God, mercy, truth, joy, peace and justice.

Knowing who and what you really are is power and lack of that knowledge is what makes majority of people focus on feeding their body with all its lustful desires and beautifying it, while neglecting what is so very precious: the spirit and the soul (Matthew 16:26).
Such lifestyle usually ends in destruction (Hosea 4:6).

May you not be among those that are destroyed because they lack knowledge.

In the next part of this series, we will gain a fuller understanding of man as a tripartite being.
This is to prepare us to get to know God for who He really is; because if we don't understand who we really are, we cannot understand who God is or relate with Him as we ought to.
