Gospel, Luke 4:24-30
And he went on, 'In truth I tell you, no prophet is ever accepted in his own country.
'There were many widows in Israel, I can assure you, in Elijah's day, when heaven remained shut for three years and six months and a great famine raged throughout the land,
but Elijah was not sent to any one of these: he was sent to a widow at Zarephath, a town in Sidonia.
And in the prophet Elisha's time there were many suffering from virulent skin-diseases in Israel, but none of these was cured -- only Naaman the Syrian.'
When they heard this everyone in the synagogue was enraged.
They sprang to their feet and hustled him out of the town; and they took him up to the brow of the hill their town was built on, intending to throw him off the cliff,
but he passed straight through the crowd and walked away.
Reflection on the Gospel of the Lord
Prophets are sent by God to bring the good news to all the people. They are also spread the word of the Lord through their teachings and also reveal the details of the future. But inspite of what the prophets do, they are rejected by the people especially the Pharisees.
When Jesus Christ came to this world, the only thing he wants is to teach and guide the people in accordance to the command of God the Father. Jesus Christ preach the scriptures of God, performed miracles and loved the people so much but still the people rejected him. The people who he cared so much don't believed him especially the Pharisees who even wants him crucified.
We Christians always go to church especially every Sundays. Many of us even go to church everyday. We all have the sacramental graces. We can always receive the Sacrament of Penance weekly if needed. We always pray to the Lord. But do we really place God first in our Hearts? Did we observe all God's Commandments? Did we really love Jesus Christ above all else? Did we really open up our Hearts to God? We should really get serious in this and ask ourselves these questions and only you can answer it.
