It's blessing for us to study the word of God in the light of the Spirit. Today is another day that the Lord has made and we must be glad to meditate on His word. For David, talking about the blessed man said in the prefatory words of the book of Psalms that 'his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. (Psalm 1:2, ESV)' . If we are blessed spiritually, then we must meditate on the word of God. His law must be our daily bread. This meditation is not something that people force themselves to do. But the blessed man, because of what God has done in his heart, has an inherent appetite for the word day and night. The blessed man says 'How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! (Psalm 119:103, ESV)' If the word of God is sweeter than honey, then let's continue with what we started yesterday about the blessed man .
The text from which we are consider this topic is taken from the first chapter of the book of psalm;
3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. 4 The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. (Psalm 1:3-4, ESV)
Today we will endeavor to highlight on the third and fourth verse and continue next time. The part 1 of this series captured the first two verses. Let's start by considering;
'1. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers;'
The man blessed by God is a man of fruit bearing. The blessed man bears fruits not because he's so careful of himself or has some special super powers as some men of God claim to have, no. Far from that, the blessed man is simply someone who is a child of God. And because he or she is a child of God, God has bought him from the slavery of sin with His blood. Paul, knowing this said that 'you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God. (Galatians 4:7, ESV)' .
Therefore if we are heirs, then we are planted on the fertile Rock. The Rock of Ages holds us in His hands. We are now living in a family of rich spiritual nourishments. The blessed man, because he has been adopted into the royal family of God, is constantly supplied with the water of life. The water, which signifies the word according to the epistle Paul , helps the blessed man to grow well. For Paul, connecting the word with water said concerning the husband that 'he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, (Ephesians 5:26, ESV)'
This word is for the sanctification of the soul. To separate us from the world. As I have said earlier in the part one, the blessed man does not move with wicked people- people who practice unrighteous. He also does not 'stand(s) in the way of sinners, nor sit(s) in the seat of scoffers; (Psalm 1:1, ESV)' . That's who the blessed man is. If you're blessed, then live by the washing of the word and find sanctification through it. The blessed man also prospers in all things. For the Lord is with him always.
'The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away'
Here, we see David giving a contrast between the blessed man and the wicked man. He said that the wicked man does enjoy the blessings of the blessed man. The wicked man does not have any protection from God; the wicked man does not prosper in all his ways; his vain glory is short-lived, his wealth has sorrows attached to it; he does not have the Father's love. Etc. The wicked man does not bear any spiritual fruit. His foundations are upon the mud of this passing world. His glory is in the material things. He has built his treasures on this earth of which God is going to send a powerful wind to blow it off.
Let's consider the contrast that the apostle used taking about the wicked man. He said 'he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. (Luke 6:48, ESV)'. The wind, which signifies the judgement of God will destroy all his possessions. He is 'like chaff that the wind drives away'.
My dear friend. Are you a child of God? Do you have these blessings in your life? If not then this is the right time to come to your Master and Savior. He is ready to accept you and plant your feet upon Mount Zion. He is ready to plant you beside the streams of life. Come and join this wonderful family as we sing;
🎶 1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. (Psalm 23:1-3, ESV) 🎶
Blessed is the man whose life pleases the Lord.
The blessings of the Lord are sure for those that keeps His law and always seeks His forgiveness when we sin.
Amen.
The blessing of the lord is all we need..
Amen
How did you do this?
